Interesting Drive Home

So last night I was on my way home and my car went into and out of limp mode 4 times. My drive was approx 41km (25mi). It was pretty cold out and I waited 5 mins before I pushed the car.

I looked up the fault codes on my Torque app and I am getting code P0402 - EGR Flow Excessive Detected.

My Car is a 2011
with approx 65,000 km (40,400 mi).

I just thought I would post this up to see if anyone else has experienced this.

I need to book an appointment with my service.

Sounds like carbon buildup man. Hopefully it's best case and the EGR valve needs replacing.

mine did that and I cleared it out. Your EGR valve may be sticking. Mine is "temp" blocked and that is one of the codes I can get.

Made an appointment for next Monday.

I guess I should insist on having a loaner for the day.

Tell the SA you and your family feel "unsafe" in driving this vehicle. That was the "magic word" that got me mine loaner yesterday.

My first thought too. EGR flow too high would suggest the DDE was trying to shut the EGR off or low and wasn't getting the result, which to me suggests a sticking EGR

I dont have a reason to take it in for service, the fault is of my doing. My point is its sounds like the symptoms my car had experienced due to a poor flowing egr. have your EGR check, or you can pop off your charge pipe and look in there with a flashlight to see what your working with.

Hey, i have been hearing that "whistle" since the day i have owned this car. To me it feels like the actuator releasing the vacuum or something.

...And mine does have a little bit of rough idle when it is cold in the morning. But it goes away after engine has been warmed up. I tried scanning my car today but i do not have any code related to EGR, but i do have a CEL on due to the passive urea tank level sensor error.

Haven't gotten it back but yet it's under the knife saw it yesterday on the hoist with its heart open.

My SA told me they changed an injector and I think he said EGR valve.

Got my car back today looks like the beginning of my carbon build up.

I am not too worried about it because I still have 20k left on my original warranty plus an additional 80k of CPO warranty. The only thing I am afraid of is the downtime. I had a loaner for 4 days and I missed my car, I can't imagine how other feel who go without their car for longer.

I'll post a pic of my work order when I get a chance.

I'm surprised because I drive my car hard.

I can't see your work order but driving the car hard means nothing at all in the end. The restrictive emissions ensures that it's just a matter of when, not if for carbon buildup.

Hard to tell I was driving an X1 for 4 days. It feels like a beast.

Haven't noticed it. No rough idle yet either.
