Number Plate Relocation to side

Hi Guys,

has anyone done a number plate relocation on your cars?

If So, have you been in trouble for it?

Anyone familiar with the laws?

VicRoads says this

"In Victoria, the law requires that number plates are displayed on vehicles and that they are clearly visible from a distance of 20 metres."

Well if you look at trucks, trailers and 4 x 4's they have their rear number plate located on the side and designed by the manufacturer that way.

Why shouldn’t the same apply to the front of a vehicle???

The bigger question would be "why" though....

Yeah I've seen Ben's plate relocation and it looks fine from the tow hook.

There is a cool tow hook number plate mounting device that allows you to remove the number plate with a twist (both front and rear) and pop in your boot.

Handy (very handy) now that rego stickers are no longer on NSW cars - feels like an idea for free parking.

I wonder if you can actually get towed under current legislation for not having identifiable number plates while parked on the side of the road?

I imagine whether a car is parked or driving down the road, you'd get questioned about not having number plates, but not necessarily fined if you have a legit reason. So you get free parking would probably not be a legit reason ...

A lot of recent Alfas have side plates on the front from factory.

I reckon you would get free parking for sure....council rangers wont touch a car with no plates. Ive tried to get plateless stolen cars towed from inner city suburbs before as they take up residents parking spots but council wont want to know you till they see iut there for 4 weeks unmoved with no plates. A days parking will be easy as long as you're not in a clearway

NSW Not sure about other states, but I've always assumed it is illegal to relocate your number plate away from factory.

But then again I see those rear bike racks with their number plate relocated on the rack. Never really got an answer to this whether or not you'd get into trouble with the law for it.
