Grrrr.....

...Put my car in yesterday (330D M Sport) to have all the glow plugs changed and the glow plug relay too. Apparently this involved removing the inlet manifold.

Today my car pumps out a "P2620 throttle position output circuit open" error.

Any ideas lads ?

Erm, yes. Take it back to the people that did the work and get them to sort it?

Sounds like they have omitted to replace the wiring harness connector to the throttle body. This would need to be removed prior to removing the inlet manifold.

Hope this helps. The error message is directly associated with the work you have had carried out.

Awesome... thank you...i'm anticipating the "Oh well, something gave out and we had to replace it... that'll be £xxx please".

This has really annoyed me, I know mistakes can happen and he's a mech I trust..... but now he's just pi@@ing me about by not fixing it yesterday (too busy) and not doing it this morning, promised for Monday. So no car over the weekend... disappointing when a good mech goes bad !

So, this is what he wrote: "Found one fault with throttle housing, checked component all ok, carried out wiring check and found noise/corrupted signal on main signal wire. Checked through wiring and found this component also works through glow plug plug relay system. Checked this and and also found corrupt signal, traced wiring on engine block and found chaffed through and touching block. Repaired and now ok".

So to my mind, this fault was never present prior to the work he did replacing the glow plugs and relay, he also gave me the car back with this fault (P2620 throttle position output circuit open) after the first lot of work. He wanted to charge me two hours labour... I argued and did not pay a penny.

All on good terms, however, what are your thoughts, error as a result of his initial work and good mech gone bad.... or one of those things ?

Sounds like your Mechanic needs to swallow his pride and learn a bit of customer service skills. The way you've been treated doesn't make you want to trust him again does it. Surely had the car had this fault before having the work done, he would if spotted it and call you to discuss while the car was in bits?!

Spot on... that's exactly how I feel about him, and even gave me the car back with that fault on it !. Bit of a recipe for disaster for him unless he changes his ways... poor customer service... lose customers...bad rep.... no customers... two down already, including the wife !!

Glad he's sorted it. My initial response was tongue in cheek but basically because I'd not have accepted any outcome bar the one you ended up getting, IE a free repair. Car was without that fault before it went in so *had* to sort it out. Glad he did as I said.
