Ordered JB4 Moments Ago. Any sage wisdom???
I just placed my order literally 5 minutes ago. Anyone got any great advice? I've read hours on end already before I decided to pull the trigger.
I even called a BMW dealership across the state and ask them flat out about it. He seemed very surprised. He said his JB4 clients have 0 problems with there car. Also said it's very unlikely to be detected unless your need whole motor replaced. Going to call a few more just for shits a giggles. |

-1 for telling/asking dealership about jb4, or any tune for that matter. like wth? You're car and everyone else is "bone stock"
but +1 for getting a jb4. Its da best. 1. TAKE IT OUT FOR SERVICE 2. KNOW HOW TO DIAGNOSE A MISFIRE Thats it. Just learn how to use it and understand the menu settings.

I ain't no fool. I wanted to hear it straight from the horses mouth so I called BMW. I liked what I heard. More people should call and post what the info they get from different dealerships. It be a good way to collaborate to find mod friendly dealerships for other people. My car is below bone stock. I got a detuned model that is designed to make less power and last longer!!! |

Oh.... I also wanted to give some credit to Terry at BMS, I emailed Terry right before I placed my order to ask him a few questions and he emailed me back within 5 min. I was highly impressed. He definitely lived up to his reputation for customer service here on the board!!!

Make sure you get the USB cable and run it through into the glovebox. Get an extended cable as well (female to male) connector.
Run map 5. Go to Terry's site for help. Much more help there than here. |

If you can do a spark plug or coil DIY, you already know half of the JB4 DIY. Better get up to speed on that DIY anyway since you'll be replacing plugs every 20k-25k or so. The first time doing the ECU part could get confusing so take your time, breaks, and have patience. With practice you'll be able to get the JB4 in and out in less than 30 minutes (and that's with taking your time!)
I really don't get the calling dealerships thing. They lie all the time. They lie even worse to get you in the door. What are you going to do after your warranty is flagged just because someone over the phone said you could service a tuned car at their dealership? It comes down to a few key individuals in the service dept. to get flagged (serivce manager, foreman, etc.). A single person over the phone isn't going to mean much in my book. I used to drop my car off with the JB4 in all the time. I set it to Map 0 and was fine. Once I forgot to set it to Map 0 and they simply told me they couldn't read my car for some reason. It was awkward, but we all knew the real reason. I just picked it up and scheduled another appointment. I was lucky. |

I live in san antonio, and the dealership here is actually really cool about the jb4. my sa just said, if you need to do any warranty work, just take it out before you come, but routine maintenance, no biggy. I had the wastegate rattle, took it in under warranty, and had to take out the jb4, but my sa knows i have one.
Prepare to have fun! Get a radar detector before its to late, and also get a charge pipe as its not used to having that much boost. My charge pipe was destroyed within 2 weeks of the jb4! Also make sure you do oil changes at least every 7500 miles. |
