Amount of Coolant? And running Temp.
Car is 2007 335i Sedan US car.
I live in Greater Vancouver Canada. Temp right now is about 2 to 7 degrees C. No Oil cooler in the Car. Just did a oil filter housing gasket myself. So, the hose going from rad top to OFH, I stuck it back in, had starting squeezing it repeatedly. This started to drain the coolant more and more. And I bought 1 gallon on BMW anti-freeze. Mixed it with Distilled water equally. Got 2 x 4 liters of coolant. Now after the refill and air purge. I am left with 2 liters only. So the car took 6 liters....hmmmm. Was I close to the max amount or not? Cause, dealer said, 1 gallon is all you need. So I did an oil change also with 0-30 castrol German formula. I was hoping the car would run cooler, but it's not. I am at 1 to 2 lined over half way point. In the summer, 3 lines. Oil minder is for 24k km. It had 8k km left. Oil was jet black when I drained it. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in Advance. DN |

The coolant will not get the temps back to 0 while the engine is running if that's what you are looking to accomplish because that's how bmw designed it. Normal temp range. If it goes higher then the fan will chip in for further cooling. Also some of the coolant was left in the engine block after drainage that is why the remaining coolant is there. Never too bad to change the oil either. Happy driving.
