Mileage Question

Hi there,

Im looking to see an E91 330i SE tomorrow which has 160k on the clock for a 57 plate... I appreciate its high mileage, but the wife doesn't really do that many miles, so im not really seeing any benefit really in having a diesel... My questions not really around fuel economy.. its more around - what I need to look out for at this age of car?

Do you know if its got a cam belt or chain? The seller said its a 2 owner with full service history - BMW majority but then specialist, and hes got a huge pile of paperwork for me to look thorugh tomorrow... and just wondered if there is anything to look for...

Being that I have had diesels BMW's in the past - i've always worried about turbos, dpf's, swirl flaps etc...

any help would be appreciated

Firstly, I hope it's less than £5k...

Secondly , it's a timing chain

Thirdly, other than checking it's actually been serviced and had parts replaced, there is nothing specific!

Surely there is a better car for your lady though than a high mileage e91?!

Just...it's just been reduced to 4,995.... Now thats still a starting point...just because he's reduced it doesn't mean that's what it's worth....

Ok great thanks for that.

We were spoilt a few years ago when we had a 320d m sport with the extra display with pro nav... And this one has the pro nav, with leather seats... So i guess she likes the look of it internally.

Im looking to buy from a dealer, and down here in Bristol similar money gets you a 320i auto, cloth interior... With 120k on the clock... Or an es model... Nothing wrong with some of these things but things like air con in the back... Climate and leather are all nice options... There are a couple more I will hopefully see, but I fancied a change from diesels....

If your wife doesn't do mileage I'd steer well clear of diesels anyway

Around town you will see about 24mpg and on a long run you will see about 32-34mpg if not a little more with a very light foot.

Has it had any suspension work?

Worth checking as you don't want to spend £1k on new bushes, shocks etc soon after buying...

If its cheap and has a substantional and good service history receipts it could be worth having.

I'd be worried about other components rather than the engine TBH, so id put 1k towards those and if they go replace when needed.

ATEOTD people arnt going to be queueing up to buy this car so the ball is in your court.
