I changed my oil, placing the O-ring in the incorrect position.
I lost about 5 quarts of oil during my commute to work. When the oil pressure light came on, I discovered my error, and did a fresh oil change. The SEL came on with a code P0012, which I cleared with my scanner and has not returned What hasn’t gone away is a “diesel-like” sound, almost as if the timing is still retarded from the P0012 malfunction. The compression seems to be fine, and the power is still there. It doesn’t miss or chug at all. I unplugged the battery in hopes of clearing the computer, but the sound remains. Any advice as to what this might be? It just sounds like a diesel now. VANOS? |

You need to have someone do an oil analysis. That will show if you have metal from the bearing material in the oil. If so, you've got a major problem and will have to rebuild the lower end (crankshaft).
