Cat Urine Smell

Hello everybody,

Hope everyone is having a good Monday si far.

I have a bit of an issue....Took the cat to the vet this morning in a cloth, collapsible, animal carrier with a padded bottom, and of course the cat peep itself out of fear and left my car smelling terrible. I had put a towel underneath the carrier and the seat just in case and it did leak through to the towel, but I don't think it actually got into the leather. Still, after cleaning in with just quick interior cleanser at every free point I have, the smell is still pretty apparent. What should I do next? I was going to go get some leather conditioner since I don't have any with me and try that. Any other suggestions? I sprayed some air freshener on a towel and put that in the car to kind of combat the cat piss smell.

Any ideas would be great. Just want my car to smell like leather again.

Thanks.

just soap and water to clean. My friends dog did the same thing. SOap and water and anything that doesnt have alcohol in it so it won't dry the leather. Lots of air fresheners and let it air out as much as you can. AIR freshners too

HIs smell comes and goes and on hot days. he still gets a wiffs of that smell months later.

If it went throught the seams your screwed. You will need to remove the leather to get to the padding and if this is the passenger seat, the sensor mat will have absorbed it to.

Natures Miracle from the pet store. It has enzymes that break down the urine.

Baking soda helps. Leaving your windows open once the urine has been cleaned up helps too.

I'm pretty sure it didn't since I had towel underneath the carrier, so it soaked up what went through the carrier. I'm guessing and hopping the odor is just from the towel being on the seat.

After cleaning it repeatedly with my interior cleaner, it has lessened a bit, and I'm keeping the windows cracked while parked and opening them while driving. Just put some leather conditioner on it too and that seemed to help the smell.

Tomorrow if it's still very bad, I'll do the soap and water.

Any other method other that this or something similar is bullshit, you need the enzymes to break down the urine thus making the smell go away. Anything else is a waste of time.

Buddy bought an e46 m3 with a cat that took many trips in it he took it to a local interior detailing place and smell went away but the cat hair came back and the detailer said thats not uncommon and they did another cleaning and all went away. They said they do specific cleaning for animals and the chemicals are not harmful to the leather or carpet.

Well Jerry ended up getting rid of his 5 series in that one episode because of a bad smell...

After failing to sell it, he had no choice but to allow a street person to steal it.

Just saying...

And just think... BO is easier to get rid of compared to cat urine!

Honestly, sell the car. I'm not a fan of cats, so I'd get rid of the cat too. Cat piss is the absolute worst. In-laws had their cat pee on a couch cushion... after numerous tips, tricks, and products they finally bought a new couch. Despite the smell largely going away, a humid or hot day would cause wiffs of it to return... especially when someone flopped down on the couch.

I hate to sound negative... hopefully it's not that bad and will come out for you.
