are they trying to open a shop in the US? If not, I doubt it will be any cheaper than the US based service. Anything other than sending it on a boat and waving goodbye for a couple months will probably cost the entire difference between a reputable unit and this untested unit. With the welded diff that we have I honestly think that the prices we have for LSDs are pretty fair, anything significantly cheaper would be suspect IMO
That said, if they can make a good unit for a bunch cheaper then ![]() |

We are a US business, with our R&D Facility in San Dimas, CA.
All of our products are designed & developed in the USA, with manufacturing done both in the US and our TW facilities. All items are manufactured in-house; we do not outsource the production. |

Hooper, are you anywhere close to this place?
I'm starting to play with the idea of this kind of modification. At this point I'm strongly considering the Quaife. But if someone from Team D is close to this facility ... |

not real close for me. probably 6-7 hours. I think there are a handful of guys on here closer to them than I am. I dont do enough hard/track driving to justify something in this range but it is still interesting to me.

The LSD modification for me was most apparent in two places:
1. The day I drove it home it was raining, and it made spirited cornering in the rain noticeably different. 2. At the track, coming out of the corners and stomping on it was more forgiving. But, now that I have had it installed for almost a year (in March), I hardly notice it unless I think about it when I get the much more rare yellow light when the DSC has intervened. After a time it just becomes part of the car behaving the way a proper BMW should.

Thanks for the feedback.
Do you have any details about your installation posted somewhere? Or could you describe if you did the install yourself, have someone else do it, and how much it cost? |

Thanks for the links. Having read through them I didn't quite find what I was looking for. So I'll ask it specifically:
If you buy a pre-packaged "pumpkin" like the below example http://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac-...als-p2763.aspx ... is the removal/installation of the "pumpkin" a DIY job? Or is there special tools/knowledge needed for proper installation that makes this not a DIY weekend job? |

for our cars it is not a straight drop in feature. With VAC it requires machining/welding, then the price out the door with them it makes no sense to me. If this new one would be different (easier to install) and cheaper I will probably consider it in the future.
Not close to San Dimas, but in So Cal area. |

I'll try doing some searches on differential installs and backlash in the meantime. I would be interested in any good DIY links for this kind of install though. |

Thanks.
I just finished reading this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=513544 Pertinent parts for the LSD "pumpkin" removal/install seem to be: . . . 9. Disconnect Axle Shafts, using parking brake to hold from spinning while braking bolts loose. Support Axles with wire or hanger. 10. Disconnect Drive Shaft, require a special thin 50 mm wrench which AR Design makes and can be purchased from Harold at HP Autowerks. Need to turn clockwise to loosen. 11. Support Diff with Jack, Strongly suggest using a trans jack. 12. Remove 3 bolts holding diff in, Right Frt bolt has exhaust hanger with nut that must be removed if not removed with exhaust. 13. Lower diff slightly, pull backwards to disengage the drive shaft spline and lower completely and set aside. Do not put to much downward force on drive shaft. . . . 25. Reinstall Fully Reassembled Diff with fluid pre filled. Raise with Jack, Have diff tilted slightly up in the frt to help align to drive shaft spline push diff onto drive shaft, raise unit into position. I found it easier to hand start rear bolt and nut and then align and hand start frt to bolts. Front 2 bolts must be torqued 1st to 100 NM before torquing Rear Bolt and Nut to 165 NM, Make Sure you torque the nut not bolt. 26. Apply blue loctite to drive shaft thread and torque drive shaft to 75 NM, remember to turn counter clockwise to tighten. AR wrench comes in handy with torque wrench. 27. Reconnect axle shafts, replacing bolts recommended, use blue loctite and torque to 52 NM. That doesn't seem too bad. Anyone know if there's more to it than this if you buy the whole "pumpkin" already assembled? |
