Any inexpensive reset tools ?

My 2006 is about to come off warranty and so I'm looking for a reset tool mainly for service codes

The only ones I find for BMW's indicate they are only good through 2003 model years.

eg http://www.bimmerzone.com/resettool.htm#3

Can anyone recommend one?

There is a procedure here that tells you how to reset your service lights...

there is not a tool anymore.

just search "Service Reset"

if you need a hand, PM me

thanks a lot. that search didn't work, but I kept trying and eventually found this thread....

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...set+indicators

which seems to be just what I need. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

I need it now because the dealer did what should be the last service (I'm at 46K miles) and they didn't reset the indicator lights for the 4 things they did.

since they're 30 miles away, I'd rather just do it myself -- especially now that the maintenance warranty period is up.

Now I know why there is no reset tool -- that worked and it was free.

Yes, Westchester BMW -- they're very good overall on service, fixing things on warranty that could have been denied (such as replacing the door grab handle after I scratched it) and always have BMW loaners. They only issue has been forgetting to reset the lights.

driverseven - are you going to get the Extended Service Main plan (signup

before the 50K mile mark)?

I'm at 44K miles now and I have time to gather more info as for alternative

shops other then the Stealership.

I am not.

I have a very good independent shop that's closer to me than the dealer and I trust him more than I would trust a dealer. (keep in mind the reason I was looking for a reset tool is that the dealer performed scheduled maintenance and did not reset the indicators)

On my first BMW, I became disgusted with the dealer (not Westchester BMW) when I got a Brake fault indicator light. They told me the first appointment was in 6 weeks -- when I said, "but it's the brakes!", he just said, sorry, he didn't have any openings. No interest in making sure my car was safe.

That's when I put some effort into finding a good shop -- they're called Bimmers Only and they're in Bedford Hills (that's Westchester County) NY. I had the car in within 3 or 4 days. I forget what the problem was, but he took care of it and charged me a lot less than the dealer would have.

Now I realize that's not an evaluation of the extend service plan, but I don't like the idea of relying on a dealer.

However, I will say that I think it's really important to make sure you don't take a BMW to a shop that is not very good with them. I found that out the hard way.

If you don't go with the dealer, then do make sure you find someone who will use real OEM parts and understands BMWs.

I kept my last BMW to 120K miles and nothing major went wrong. The biggest problem were sensors giving fault errors; $100 here, $150 there, after 90K.

Auto Enginuity gave me an unofficial ETA of 1Q08 for E9x support including N54 goodies. At nearly $500 plus a new dongle for the update it's hardly the cheapest option but the software's pretty good.
