BC-BR Coilover installed today @ Advan Performance

Just want to thanks Stu and Peter for making it happen!

Initial feel: When I picked up at Advan, (not sure about the setting of the damper where stu had left it as he knock off early for valentine day's dinner) it felt firm. Not harsh at all, just firm. Travel back home on parramatta road wasn't bad at all. Definitely more noise and vibration in the cabin then before when travelling through rough surfaces.

Will update more in a couple of weeks time.............................................. .

If you don't mind me asking:

- Did you lower your car much? If so, how much lower?
- Were there any rubbing on your fenders?
- What size of tyres and rims are you running on atm?

Zen,

Not sure how much my car has been lowered. My car is non-Msport. I have lowered now to just 2 fingers clear from the fender (My guess is around 35mm or even more). Hence there is no rubbing against the fender. My wheels are stock atm and I am running Michelin PS2 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear.

Stock wheels are sunken in a lot so you can easily go lower without rubbing.

BC BR owner here chiming in..

May not be too much help, as it's an e90; however below shows lowered on BC BR's. Still plenty of room to drop lower..

For the price, I'm more than happy with them.

excellent.

I had the Eibach Pro Street fitted a few months ago to my stock 330i and love it. Mine's not too low either.

Keen to know if you have any issues with the stock end-links. Mine seem to be making the odd popping noise entering/exiting driveways and I think it's stress on the end links after lowering.

Too bouncy. Dont like it

Front 10 click from soft
Rear 8 clicks from soft
Just nice for me on comfort. Have not try some twist and turn yet.

Will update this week end on handling...................

nice ride recce. Thanks for sharing your experience. Am wondering if it's difficult to adjust, especially the rear?

The damper settings or the ride height?

Looks great! Just a tad concern on the cabin road noise and vibration. Also did you do any of the M3 mods at the time while you did your coilovers?

I believe the coilover comes with a set rear damper adjuster extender. If not it can be purchased as an accessory item from BC.

Another BC-BR but in a 135i basically same suspension.
I have mine 14 clicks from soft rear is 2-3 clicks less to stop the rear from bouncing.

If you want minimize the cabin noise have it set on soft and would have to raise the car up higher. What happens when lowering the car from coilover rings- the coil spring is not loaded up againts the spring seat. Hence the coil floats which create some of that knocking noise.

Are you talking about the pre-load though? I thought adjusting the height for the BCs was adjusting the collars to make the whole strut thread down further - I don't think it should have anything to do with adjusting the springs? Adjusting the springs means changing the preload?

Suj, yes that is true when adjusting the collars using the C-spanner- but what happens when you wind down the collars? the coils open up to a point were there is no significant load on the seating point for the coil (coil springs out)
The preload is a separate thing to what im babling on about lol.

What BC should do is shorten the dampers stroke, so the coil spring sit firm when lowered. I understand the resting weight of the car should hold it firm but i dont entirely believe so especially going through bumpy corners.

I will keep this in mind to begin with but obviously adjust to what suits me. I'm considering getting the same suspension, so far I've read its good value for money and performs well.
