Heart of the pineapple: V2 harness for under 15 bucks?

It seems crazy reading all these posts about waiting for V2 tracking numbers. You can't help but feel bad for these people. Reminds me of the early days when people had to wait months on end for a PROcede (or is that still the case?). Anyhow, you'd think that given the cost of $150, and the long wait times, that this V2 harness would be an intricate piece of equipment. I guess having seen one of these person, I was a little disappointed to see that it is a just few resistors and wires (how ironic, resistors in a box!). And it seems like the wires aren't even long enough?!?!

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94507

Now of course you have to download the voodoo software, but the harness itself you should be able to build for under 15 bucks and 15 minutes. I am surprised more people haven't done this. If you have a friend that is one of the chosen few to possess a V2 harness already, check it out and then save yourself some money and build your own!

Now be nice to me Shivites. I come in peace

It's not just resistors, there is a power supply/converter of some sort in there as best as I can tell. I assume in order to feed power to the solenoids.

And what is this heart of the pineapple stuff? Never heard that phrase.

Four resistors and a few power wires... and a sprinkle of voodoo dust.

It came from the apples to oranges...apples to apples...etc comparison. Someone threw the pineapple in there. I thought it was appropriate for Shivs car since his seems to stand out amongst all V2s

Could say you are paying for the software update more than the hardware.

Then again its not like all of us pay for Windows Vista upgrade.

those two square ceramic things are not resistors.

I'm sure the cables cost no more than $20 for Vishnu, but your not paying for the cables alone. It's the software development and time that was put into it. In addition, I'd rather pay the premium, as the support received from Vishnu and others familiar with the specific real hardware is second to none .

The money is probably going towards a down payment on a Veyron or something. But I guess if it makes you feel better to say you are supporting the R&D, then that is cool too.

Well future software upgrades were supposed to be free. So yes its an over priced bunch of cables.
Just did my maiden voyage though, very smooth. Power band was like stock with bypass cables, but just far more of it. It does feel like a nice bump over 1.47. My car today was completely stock otherwise. Next test, after maybe a map version or two update, track temps...

OK fine they are resistors. But where are you going to get the pins for the ECU connectors? You maybe be able to source those, but I'm sure it will take a while and be a PITA. Even if you get those, where will you get the procede connector pins? Even if you get all that, who's going to let you dissect their wonderful V2 under the guise that it will probably be broke in the process and it will take forever to get a new one IF they can.

Do they cost 150$ to make? No. Is it going to cost you more than 150$ in money and time to make one? Yes.

I think he's just talking about the HARNESS...!

The actual PROcede piggyback is mounted inside and that $15 harness just connects the box to the OEM box.

How is this news... or even remotely interesting? So you can make your own harness... what are you going to attach it too if you don't buy PROcede..?

Obviously you wouldn't be ordering a V2 harness if you didn't already have a PROcede. I thought it was pretty clear I was talking about the 150 dollar harness in the original post. I mean you could always purchase your own Haltech, but that's another story...

You can get the ECU connectors from BMW. The Haltech pins are available too.
You can literally build one for 15 bucks or less. That probably includes your gas too and from the store.

You can dissect without destroying it. Just be careful. I agree though, the V2 in the hands of a customer is as rare as an unicorn.

Get you one of these. The smaller ones are about 20 cent.

^ You should start making the harness so more people can get the V2 sooner.

lawdude don't do civil. But if you get arrested for driving while stupid, or for attempted ass-kicking of a famous tuner, give me a call.*

he is closer to a Veyron then you think...

do the math... thats $150k from just the v2 upgrade, and say his profit margin is ~700 bucks per procede....(considering the procede dark is only 800, so the box is probably 600 to them) then thats already over $850,000

IN ONE YEAR!

congrats to vishnu
