Popped the 335d cherry: hello SES
Threw my first SES. Oh joy.
4D16 which is DeNOx system efficiency. Also showing 3EED. I am also hearing what is likely the DEF pump running each time I get out of the car after a longer drive. I put 2.5g of DEF in the car afew K ago as I am between scheduled oil changes and the previous service they did not fill it at all. I am wondering if there is a pump problem. I have a scheduled brake fluid appt. tomorrow AM but my dealer but when I called about the SES the service adviser could care less and said I needed to reschedule as they would need more time yada yada. This doesn't bode well for my first BMW dealer experience. I am not one who wants my ass kissed: I do expect that if you charge a premium for service etc...that you will be more intelligent then the local dodge service desk. I have an appt, and I have a SES on a 335d which are known to be a bit problematic at times with their emissions system: you are going to need the car a while. Time will tell how this works out. I purchased a 100K warranty for when it goes off 4/50. Currently its about 2.5 years and 40K into its service life. I have had it < 5 months after picking it up off lease. I plan to run it as long as I can. Its a fun ride. ![]() - b Last edited by bvanlieu; 02-17-2014 at 07:11 AM.. |

Get used to dropping your bmw off at the dealer, lol.
Mine has been in once a month for 5 months since i've purchased it, but now its all good to go. I'm just waiting on the carbon build up to show up around 60k. |

Its a 4 week backlog for a loaner car. Really? Sounds like they don't like doing loaners at this dealership. Unfortunately the one I would prefer to go to (Thompson auto group in Doylestown PA) is a 50 min drive away from me. This isn't looking good for this dealer. Of course today the SES went out (its done this twice: to me its an issue if its triggering multiple times)
I have an extra but they are not winter friendly (and currently under 12" of snow ![]() As for carbon, I don't subscribe to the sky is falling but I do want to make my dealer aware of the issue (if they are not already) to prep just in case. An actual cleaning procedure as a proactive means of helping the cars over time is a good thing but I am not sure its been out long enough by BMW to see if its going to work or not. - b |

Funny thing was they gave a loaner to a walk in with a broken windshield right in front of me. I really really wanted to say something but the SA was a nice person though I would not call him knowledgeable on diesels.
I did speak directly to the tech who was excellent and knew all about the D's emissions systems. I will continue to try to request him He cleared a lot of crud around and under the exhaust which may have caused the efficiency SES. Sames white residue you see by he def filler cap. If it comes back they need to run a 30m diagnostics. Next service is in 6m or so for oil change. We shall see. I may ask and pay out of pocket for Intake carbon check. Not sure what all is involved there. -b |

4D16? Welcome to the frequent flyer club. Mine needs to go back in for its 6th shot at that code, I've just caved to the fact that it will likely never go away.
Driving my car > an F30 loaner with no guts.

Same with me, unfortunately. I'm probably going to just buy a CAN tool or something and reset codes whenever the SES comes on. Replacing the NOx sensors at $300-$500 each, and the SCR cat for $1400 just doesn't seem reasonable. Probably the sensors - they seem to be going bad on the new 328d, too.
