Re-Use TPMS Sensors or Buy New Ones?

Today I finally receive my shiny new wheels today and am going to install them as well.

I have a '07 335i with the original TPMS sensors. I'm wondering if it's smart to re-use them or if I should buy new ones. I've read that they have a 3-5 year life. They work fine, though. Thoughts?

It depends...are the tires on your old wheels shot? Any chance you'll be driving on them again? Are you going to sell them instead? Do you have space to keep them as a spare? etc.

They are supposed to have a 10 year life but it varies and really depends on how much you drive. Yours are 7-8 years old. I'd say if you don't expect your tires to last you 2 years go ahead and re-use them. Otherwise its probably best to get new.

Also, depending on what you're doing with your old wheels, it may not be worth it to unmount the tires just to recover the TPMS sensors. If they still have decent rubber and you plan to sell them as a set, then just leave them. Having sensors in the wheels raise the asking price and unmounting them will also cost you.

Great points. My fault for not specifying. The old tires are pretty worn out. They would have maybe 6 months on them tops. I kind of wanted to keep them for spares.

On 3rd thought, maybe I just ditch 'em completely?

If they work just fine then just keep them. I figure after one to one and half years you will need new tires and then you can change them out.

Yeah start with some new tires!
