Runflats gone. New goodyears installed on summer wheels. My thoughts now turn to spacesaver wheel. I bought an e46 16in steel spacesaver wheel a couple of years ago, mistakenly thinking it would fit. I have just discovered that the BMW winter wheel setup uses 16in. x 5in. wheels. So can I take it that my e46 spacesaver will fit if I get the ET correct using a spacer? Anybody done this or experimented with the idea, what thickness spacer to use etc.?

16"x5" does not sound right for an E9x winter wheel... maybe 16" x 7" at a minimum.

why not just bolt it up see how it sits?


as above, winters wont be 5" wide.

Yes, sorry a typo. 16x7 is correct. I have tried fitting fitting the 16in and it hits the calliper.

If it's the face buy a bolt a spacer.

Does it hit the caliper at the outer edge (diameter too small) or on the back face of the wheel (offset incorrect)?

If the back face you can buy a spacer plate and longer bolts to correct.
If the outer edge of the wheel then you need a 17" one

I've 17" winters on mine and there is plenty of space between the caliper and the wheel. I'd guess you need a spacer
