I have heard great things about a few different glass coatings, but at the same time, all of them seem to have some bad reviews as well. This is probably because a lot of what you get from a glass coating (durability mainly) will depend on proper prep and application, so results with any coating can vary drastically. I've heard of Opti-Glass only lasting 3-4 months on the low end and well over a year on the high end.

I'm currently testing Opti-Glass, CarPro Flyby30 and Aquapel on my personal vehicle to try and see what I like and dislike about each, as well as the durability factor. So far they're all equal, but it has only been about 3 weeks.

The Opti-Glass Clean & Protect product is also a favorite of many as it extends the durability by a bit and is easy to apply. Another one I have yet to try but heard great things about is Gtechniq G1 ClearVision Smart Glass, so it might be worth looking into.

All in all, there are a lot of options out there and I'd simply try some that have a known manufacturer and good reputation so as not to waste a lot of money trying out different products. One thing to keep in mind is that wiper use will greatly limit the durability of any coating applied to the windshield. It's recommended to use the wipers when the glass is fairly wet rather than only having a few drops when it first starts raining/snowing. At the same time, I tell clients not to care about that much as it's better they spend $100 to recoat the glass a few months before it's due vs possibly getting into a (horrible) accident on the street.

Hope that helps a bit.

I bought a bottle of rain-x. It seems to be completely ineffective. It's just because it's crap, or I am applying it wrong ?

I would lean towards it being crap . Usually it will last a few weeks if applied to glass that's cleaned up really well, possibly through decontamination and polishing. Aside from that, I haven't heard much good about it.

Through some testing I've been doing, Aquapel does seem to be the best with Opti-Glass right there, so one of those may be worth looking into when you decide to protect the glass next.
