New - V2 Install Problem

Just got the V2 today and after a $62 payment to UPS for customs/brokerage fees I went over to marcvtec's to get it installed

I wont bore you with all the details about how and what.. Everything was smooth until we got to installing the V2.0 software onto the PROCede.

I'm not too sure about what exactly the problem is but we were unable to get the software to connect to the PROCede for the update. Once we choose the correct com port and go to online/offline nothing happens. Not even a message saying you got the wrong port simply nothing.

The car works fine with the bypass pugs in.

We were running Vista on the laptop but marvtec says he was able to update his PROCede with v1.47 without any issues using the same laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A HUGE THANKS GOES OUT TO Dan (marcvtec) for the help, the beer and the smokes I went there like a bum and bummed off the guy hehe. Thanks Dan.

We tried it a tone of times. Started picking different com ports thinking it may work with different ones.. We went through virtually every com port and all of them said it was the wrong com port other then the right ones we picked.

When we pick the right com port and go to comms go online offline nothing happens, not even a message saying error or wrong com port.

The bottom still says offline.

Could it be possible that the PROCede isn't getting any power? Would everything work fine when we put the bypass plugs in if the PROCede wasn't getting any power? I have no idea what it could be just pulling ideas out of my ass.

Im not meaning to sound offensive with this at all but, you do have the PROcede connected to the serial cable to the lap top when your attempting to go online correct?

none taken NPDAN.

I've personally seen some weird problems my self so I don't mind you asking that question. The PROCede has been connected via Serial port. We are using a USB to Serial Port Converter.

After a few attempts with the regular Vista drivers we then got the drivers the other member mentioned on the forum, installed them and tried to connect again without any luck.

When it comes to the software stuff I'm pretty good at it as I'm a computer programmer by trade and Dan is great with wires.

Could there be anything else?

i don't know if this is what NPDAN was trying to ask but, while you were changing comm ports, and trying to go online was the PROcede plugged in?

if it was, its wrong, you need to disconnect, change your comm ports, then reconnect and try.

335iheLLraiseR,

You mean with every attempt of a comm port that we get wrong we should disconnect the Serial port from the PROCede and then reconnect it to try a new port?

I don't see why that would be necessary as the connection to the actual com port would not be effected by a trial and error check on the PROCede software.

I would try it right now if I hadn't put it all together and put the bypass plugs in because I had to go home. I just don't think that's the problem....

I have never updated my PROCede with any new maps as my came preloaded with v1.47 when I got it so I'm not sure if I should assume that the serial port on the PROCede might be bad?

Thanks for all your help.

it does. long story short, i was messing with a new laptop that was going through the same thing. started reading the HELP menu, and it states when changing comm ports, etc, make sure the unit is not connected.

you were using the same laptop that had previously worked before on another PROcede correct?

it might very well be the lack of power, but if you followed the directions you should be ok. unfortunately, the only way for you to know that, would be to back out the V2 upgrade, plug the PROcede back in the way it was off of the fuse and try to connect.

but thats really a bitch at this point.

Did you have the USB to Serial Cable working with 1.47? Maybe have Windows Vista search for the drivers connected to the internet.

I'll try on a windows XP laptop tomorrow and see how it goes.

I guess I was looking for more of a technical answer with regards to PROCede maybe not having power or something. Shiv any other info you may have on similar problems would help allot.

Thanks.

well, honestly the only was for you to know if the unit is getting power is by removing the V2, only then can you determine of its the PROcede or the laptop. unless you got a voltmeter and check if the green harness is getting power.

its really not that hard, just a process of elimination.

Just about every time I hear about communication problems, it turns out to be the laptop (some comm issue). Try another one and see if you still have the problem. I suspect it will be okay.
