How do you prefer to drive your auto ?

For me, using steptronic and manually changing gears gives me more control, better performance and economy. In full auto the car seems a lot more sluggish accelerating unless I push it hard.

Or do you drive in sports mode ?

Only use sports mode when leaving lights quick - otherwise I drive slow and use my paddle shift to drop if I need to go quick..

Otherwise I don't use it..as it holds the revs too high..

My steering wheel went for a retrim - and I had a temp wheel on without paddles - and I found it difficult..as the gear drops take long..

When I had my 330d I only ever used "D" and never had a problem, I can't understand how you are suffering sluggish acceleration, doesn't seem right.

Now I'm in a 330i I still only put the car into "D" but do make use of the paddles every now and again.

Might be too much expectation from me, but if I have the car in D and pull off a slip road onto a motorway, the car just cruises nicely and changes slowly unless I push it so it drops a gear or two. Think it just a case of D not doing too well in certain driving situations.

I've found of late(since re setting all the adaptations on my gearbox at work)that the the driving experience, though not bad in the first place is a lot better, I've now found myself changing gears using the paddles more and more in D mode when driving normally because the shifts have improved to my liking quite a good idea say when the roads are greasy, SD's being used more and more now as well if I want better throttle response (when slid back to D after use the throttle is more reactive for a while as you know which is a bonus) though when I really wanna press on full manual mode is very satisfying to use now, really makes the car fly.

For those using the box in D 24/7 IMO worth driving in SD for a while then switching back to D compare the difference can sharpen things up a little.

Just a note re resetting everything worth doing not only for smoothness and a better gear change but I've also spotted a small improvement re economy too, most welcome in a 335i petrol.

Done mine at work we've got the Autologic kit via the ODB port, so straightforward for me to do after everyone's finished working n customers cars, the only downside is the Alpina software update isn't on file but as we do re maps, I understand various gearbox software programs from our partners we work with won't be too far away.

I'd like to have the adaptations on my box reset, something that annoys me since I have had the car is the slow engagement of 3rd when shifting up from second compared with changes between other gears. Is this something an Indie mech could do ?

D 95% of the time for me. No poit using higher revs than necessary on my daily motorway commute. On the odd occasion I hit a decent B road I'll use S (no flappy paddles on my car).

This is why I love the Alpina flash.

I also use DS a lot and use the paddles to change when I want to! But also noticed it's a lot better on fuel if it sport and I down change coming Upto traffic lights and roundabout etc! Defiantly helps the mpg a lot, as that is one thing an auto can't really do and that engine braking properly on its own. Without my input. Plus like to hear the 6 cylinder rev slightly!
