What toolset would you guys recommend for working on a 335 e90? I'm looking to buy, but don't want to get a bunch of extraneous tools.

I pieced mine together little by little over the past years. I bought a full piece set with all the sockets I should need. Then just bought items as I needed them through my years of tuning/wrenching.

I would recommend going to your local Harbor Freight and stock up on the following:

1/4" Ratchet and regular metric socket set
3/8" Ratchet and regular metric socket set
1/2" Ratchet and regular metric socket set
3/8" Swivel Socket Set
3/8" Deep Socket Set
3/8" E-Socket Set
3/8" Torx Set
1/2" Deep Socket Set
1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" Torque Wrench
1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" Extensions
Metric Combo Wrench Set
Metric Swivel/Ratcheting Wrench Set
Metric Nut Driver Set
Metric Hex Keys
Screwdriver Set
Vice Grips
Pry Bar Set
Nitrile Gloves
Low profile steel jack
Low profile aluminum rapid pump jack

You're probably looking at a good $300 in tools right there, and that's just to get you started.

Just don't forget. Never go to harbor frieght for anything that you need to depend on or needs calibration. They're super cheap for a reason!

I had a torque bar that went out of calibration after a one use on all four wheels.
My friend bought they're ramps and was changing his oil. he got up to grab the filter wrench because he forgot it and his front drivers side tire fell through the ramp.

they're great for sockets and such. Things that don't necessarily need reliability, but I wont ever trust them again with anything I depend on.

The Pittsburg stuff at Harbor isn't horrible, but don't touch the other stuff unless it is really big stuff. I have broke quite a few of their sockets, extensions and adapters. Now I only buy 3/4" stuff of theirs but will still get Pittsburg if I won't be using it tons. You can find Craftsmen stuff on sale pretty often and they usually have thinner sidewalls which is nice.
