Custom Exhaust - MIJ Exhaust or Style Dynamics
I am planning on getting a custom exhaust system made, and I am torn between doing a 4 hour round to the Walsall to go MIJ or a 1.5 hour round to Hayes to Style Dynamics.
I have heard lots of positive feedback about MIJ Exhaust; why I am leaning more towards to do the trip up to the Midlands. Has anyone had any experience of using Style Dynamics? How do you rate their workmanship? Any feedback; good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

I've used style dynamics to put in new exhausts for me and 1 year on no problems whatsoever. Great guys there. Can't comment on mij as haven't personally used them but if ur closer to one ... Go for them as both are decent.

I've used MIJ 3 times when I had my previous car and I had a straight through exhaust built with no boxes and de-catted on a diesel and my friends have used them twice on a MINI Cooper.
My only advise to you is stick to a local exhaust shop as MIJ have been known to not weld exhausts properly and also not show customers the finished job on a ramp with out begging to be shown the work but then again this was over 3 years ago and I know management has changed hands there. If AWBIMMER review of the other place is very good and bare in mind I can tell the guy looks after his car I personally would go there. MIJ for me just make up prices on the fly which is why I won't use them now for a exhaust on my 335i.

I have looked at loads of You Tube videos of Style Dynamics work and I think will use them, especially as they are more local, so if I experience issues, it will be easier for me to resolve.

M3KingUK if you don't mind me asking what did MIJ quote you and what did you have done?
I went there at the end of August whilst I was on holiday as I was bored and got quoted £455 to literally have my resonators removed, weld in two pieces of metal in their place and to have OEM back-boxes cut out and have fitted two of their smallest back boxes fitted in whilst still using my old steel pipe work in between.

I've had work done from Style Dynamix mate in my previous cars. Craig from Style Dynamix will probably work on your car (he's the do-er) and he is a top bloke.

I opted out having the 335 conversion after hearing a few horror stories of how this is done on E93 LCI's 2010,
permanently removing part of the boot floor didn't sound good to me so I just asked them to chop off the ugly grey dull oval tip and weld on a slashed twin tip, looks miles better Also I'm focusing my funds on my ICE so saved alot by NOT going for the 335 conversion They aren't cheap because they are good at what they do and have great customer service, the owner seems like a top bloke too. my uncle heard of them from his time at other forums, and his only comments was 'cow boys'.
I got a quote for a decat mid pipes, something in the region of 540+ vat. |

Ive had my exhaust tips changed at MIJ couple years ago - whilst Andrew the guy I dealt with there was brilliant in explaining everything to me. The price at that time wasnt too bad however (I should have checked this there and then) the welding all i can say is a blind person could have done a better job - weld not nice a straight, blobs around the seam.
I have recenlty been in for a quote for some work but the price they are charging is quite bit expensive |

Thank you for all your input guys; it has been great all points (good and bad). My car is booked in at Style Dynamics later on this afternoon, so we post an update later on.

Good call, I would have suggested unique exhausts in Stafford if you were considering the long drive to the midlands. I've had around five full systems custom made by Phil over the years, always exceeded expectations. Would be good to see some pics of the system to compare designs.

Well here are couple of quick pics taken on my iPhone. The guys at Style Dynamics are a really good bunch and I am really pleased that I went there.
I decided to try the system without a rear silencer. Only driven with the roof up and there is no droning inside the cabin and its has a nice deep sound without being too loud. I will see how I fair with with the roof down....... ..... could be going back to have a silencer fitted.

Prices are from £350; additional cost if you want/need a rear silencer or a diffuser provided. I had purchase the diffuser from a fellow forum member.

As for custom exhausts there often seems to be issues. I know I've had my fair share in the past and read plenty of others. Not only is quality often poor, there is often issues with sound. It seems to be purely guesswork on the noise levels and sound. Also seen custom exhausts responsible for a loss of power. I'd personally buy a proper exhaust from a reputable company with a proven track record. I'd also avoid mimicking a 335 and come up with something different. |

Above 100% right mate. Very often custom exhausts are made in different shapes (usually smaller) company's use less materials thats why they are cheaper.
