This reminds me of when MotoGP went from 500cc 2-strokes to 1000cc 4-strokes. In time, you'll learn to love the new sound, yet still appreciate the sound of years gone by.
BTW - while not a F1 car, the most impressive race car I ever had the pleasure to see/hear was the Audi R18. Not for the sound it made, but for the sound it didn't make. It was like a ghost. Absolutely awe inspiring that something could accelerate that fast without making a sound (other than a whoosh of air and a slight whine from the gear box). Now that was a beautiful sound and sight to behold. Again, years gone by. |

It's even worse than that! 15,000 rpm is the Limit, in actuality they are only revving to around 10,000 rpm.
They can have the awesome sounds and still showcase new technologies, that's the irritating part. In Moto GP when they switched to 4 strokes, at least they still sounded awesome and loud, just different. |

Sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard this year. I missed the first race and I'm kind of glad I did. I understand the race and driving were great, but this sounds like total ****. It's the racing equivalent of Autotune, which is akin to ice-picks in one's ears. Wait, this is worse, it's like rail-spikes in one's ears. I could not care less about efficiency, green, or other such crap. It's racing. Racing is meant to use up gasoline, oil, and rubber in mass quantities in order to go very fast and make very nice noises. So burn up some dinosaurs and rock some carbon! Those who disagree can drive their Prius or Volt to the race and leave their BMW in the garage. There, problem solved--net carbon exchanged and carbon offset provided by concerned fans. Add on top of that the FIA, which is made up essentially of cats, and cat rules (6,000 pages per rule that change second to second and make no sense except to other cats) and the sport is, well, 10 seconds from dead. Again, it's F1, run and burn, not some eco-friendly carbon conserving Prius race. Last edited by Finnegan; 03-19-2014 at 03:26 AM.. |

GOOD. Maybe now we can enjoy watching the races without worrying that our eardrums would burst and bleed. The old sound was nice to watch on TV but really a pain when you're in the stands. Plus, if people enjoyed the sounds that much, nobody would wear ear plugs.

Don't expect major engine reg changes for at least three to four years.
I'd be shocked if they didn't rewrite the regs next year to get rid of the male genitalia hanging off the front ends of the cars. |

I would bet they address the lack of noise within THIS current season. Many race organizers and promoters are not at all happy after seeing the race in Australia. I for one am very disappointed. Im bringing my son to his first F1 race this year in TX and all I kept saying was wait til you feel it and hear it. That doesn't seem to be so impactful now.

When I was a kid, we used to take playing cars and clip them to the frame so they hit the spokes on the wheels and made "super duper race car sounds", maybe if they did that to the new F1 cars they'd sound better lol.
The funny thing is, you'd actually be able to hear that! |

I'm wondering if I skip going to a race this year in protest?
