Tial BOV

Just received my new Tial BOV. After some test, I found out the valve is so tight I could not push it with bare hand at all no matter how hard I tried. Is this normal?

I took it apart and found out the cylinder was stuck so I lubricated the rubber o-ring on the cylinder and put it back together. The spring was copper color, is this the so-called yellow spring? The spring was so strong, took lots of force to push it back in place. After re-assembled, I still could not push the cylinder to move even 1 mm by hand. I was wondering if this BOV will work on the car after installation? Please help!

Copper? That sounds like a brown spring to me which is WAY too strong. The Yellow spring is like a Ferrari Yellow so you definitely don't have the right spring.

EDIT: Use this as a reference - http://www.tialsport.com/documents/w3_tial_qqr_sp.pdf

From what I can tell, it's not painted. It's just raw metal. Can you push the cylinder by hand?

If it's raw metal then it's an unpainted spring which is one step lower in resistance to the yellow.

Where did you get it from and did you get it with it's original box? If so what was the part number on it?

I got it from Evalution Racework, the Tial BOV was installed on ER charge pipe when I got it. I've noticed the other Tial BOV's have "Made in US" on the top, but mine has the "ER" there. So this is the ER version of Tial Q BOV.

I have a Tial BOV. Not to long ago I took it apart and lubricated it. The spring inside was what Tial calls the "plain color" which has a spring pressure of 11psi. It was the one recommended for my e92. I have to say, when the BOV is assembled, it is quite difficult to move the piston by hand.

Looks like we got the same Tial BOV. I also took it apart and lubricated the internals. So is you Tial BOV functioning correctly? Does it release charged pressure when you let off the gas pedal?

Yes, if the Tial BOV sees a long shelf time, the rubber ring on the cylinder got stuck to the side wall, so it's not moving at all. When I opened it up, even without the spring, the cylinder would not move, after some lubrication, the cylinder moved freely inside the chamber.

What did you use for lubrication?

I'm gonna go from a raw spring to a white on soon... I get the bov opening in multiple phases/flutter at low boost levels. I'm sure its not compressor surge, but worth switching out anyways - sounds annoying lol.

Its just a Tial BOV made for ER. ER orders so many Tials that Tial puts the ER logo on them.

So f you have that bov rated at 11psi and u get a tune so your hitting up to 18 psi do you need to order a different doing? How does it work for guys that stunning their tune all the time?? You have to keep swappng the springs?

The 11psi spring is for vacuum on the Tial bov. It doesn't involve boost pressure.

I just applied small amount of engine oil around the cylinder and the o-ring. Tha should be good enough.

No I didn't, just came with the plain spring. Hopefully the white spring will fix now low boost flutters.
