guess for Audi it doesn't involve valves, this is for carbon buildup on the secondary air injection ports

I don't know, but secondary could just mean a second set of ports like our swirl valve ports

This very SAME problem exists in the E39 M5, since the secondary air ports are routed through the cylinder head instead (you'd think people would learn by now) of directly into the exhaust stream.

BMW did nothing then to cover this for the E39 M5 owners....

So what exactly is a secondary air port? I thought that was where you land when the primary air port is snowed in.

I see these secondary air ports appear to be IN the head. Does this mean that the head has to be completely removed to do the cleaning or can the secondary air ports be cleaned with other parts removed and the head remains in place? If the head has to be removed for this cleaning, this is a major job -- kudos to Audi for taking one for the team.

I'm wondering what leveraged Audi into implementing this... That is our salvation.

My service advisor was telling me the new diesels are suffering the SES light as well. It seems there are quite a few irate BMW diesel owners.

We really need to start some kind organized action for this.

Im telling you guys, someone needs to step up start a dedicated website where we can collectively document the CBU issue...then send letters to BMWNA and Roundel magazine.

Once this type of momentum occurs then class action lawsuits will follow and then BMW will be forced to do something about this.

I have always said its just a matter of time before BMW extends warranties on diesels to 6 yrs or 100K miles...mark my words.
