Hey guys so I have never really gotten into car audio but I had a friend give me these 2 JL Subs and a Kenwood Amp. I really have no idea if they are good quality or any idea how or where I could install them because I definitely don't want a huge box in my trunk because of the weight. I am thinking of probably just using 1 sub rather than both. Also will probably buy a different amp since the one he gave seems a little dated and old. I would appreciate any help you guys could offer me as far as if they are worth my time and possible install ideas

Do you know what model those jl subs are? You could use an Alpine pdx m6 which does 600 watts at 2 or 4 ohms. Should be enough power for one sub. If you want a stock look get a corner enclosure.

I found out this whole setup is the lowest model of each and labor to install would be more than the actual value of the items. I have been speaking to Don (6spdcoupe) and think to start I am going to go with the Jehnert Flatline Kit with probably a JL XD600. I want to do it right the first time and not look back. Eventually I will get a trunk enclosure but I think with the Jehnert and Amp i will probably be very happy for a good amount of time

If your planning on buying the XD600/6 amp get the marine one instead (link below). Its a refurbished amp and its only $350 shipped (best price I've seen online). Its the Marine Version which has a special coating on it to protect it from Salt water so if you happen to have a leak somehow in the trunk area this amp will be protected from rain water just as easily.

Or if you want the original version you can get the XD600/6 from the link above the only difference is the motherboard water protective coatings and color of the casing for the m600/6 version are different.


Don't forget to get to buy the Tecnic Harness for your system when swapping in any new amps. If your looking for a nice sounding sub in a very compact ( and low weight) form you should check these out. (cheaper without boxes and or you can buy or build a double box if you want to run 2 of them)

If you get the 10" or the 12" inch model get this amp

So for the two 300/1 and 600/6 your total would be $550 shipped for those two amps, but if your going with the 13TW5 then you'd want the 500/1 amp for the same price. Now if the If the smaller 10TW3, or the 12TW3 will work for you then you can get a little creative you can buy two different model number amps to accomplish the same thing, for $50 less. (you can also use this 300w sub channel to power one of your current subs)

XD500/3 $250 shipped (this will run your under-seat subs and rear subwoofer)
XD400/4 $250 shipped (this will run you front and rear speakers)

Now if you want to run two of the new small 10TW3's or two of the 12TW3's (or keep the subs you have now) you can swap out that XD400/4 for the XD700/5 model and have two amps that output 300w to each sub giving you 600w to two subs.

Sounds like a good idea. I think the Jehnert's sound pretty good even without a sub.

Not 100% yet, but I do know I am definitely going to go with the Jehnert Flatline Kit to replace the front speakers just havn't fully decided on the amp and sub yet. Thanks again for all your help
