BMW E90 CCC to NBT?
I've a BMW 335i with the professional CCC setup but feel its too slow and needs updating to accommodate some digital media like my iPhone.
There's lots of threads and people offering CCC to CIC conversion but also lots of talk about the NBT setup. Does anyone know of any UK owners who have completed a successful conversion or any company which can undertake the job. |

Next Big Thing "apparently" Not sure if thats' just Internet term or actual fact.
Looks like the CIC iDrive, but faster, fancier menus and usually with the big ass knob on the controller with the touch fingering input thing on it. lol

Ahh, thanks, I Googled NBT but couldn't fathom out why the OP wanted either Natural Building Technology or the Northern Ballet Theatre in his car I'm guessing he means something like the F30 setup but even fancier, I have to admit that after having an F30 for a weekend the Sat Nav & iDrive is a big improvement

I'm pretty sure the NBT retrofit is coming, but cannot see it been cheap.
I've recently done the CCC to CIC upgrade and have to say its a massive difference....but it cost me £700ish for the parts which is a lot to pay for getting essentially better sat Nav. When the NBT retrofit becomes more widely available it will probably push the CIC retrofit prices down which would be good. |

Sorry guts didn't know the exact technical term but most forums have adopted 'NBT'
It's basically the idrive from the later models as explained above. CIC is roughly £900-1000 fitted and coded. My main reason for upgrading is to get some decent iphone integration and also I find the old Sat Nav a bit slow and the DAB doesn't pick up many stations. The other option I've been looking at is the Dension IconDrive unit but your looking at £400 fitted which only gives you iphone integration so maybe CIC / NBT Is a better long term option. |

NBT retrofit will work out £1500-£1600.
You will have to put the ccc back when your car goes to the dealer for the software upgrade. PS: touch system controller is optional and not mandatory.

^^also NBT means you get combox as well as its a combined unit, plus you can keep your existing CIC controller if you want. the NBT emulators are starting to filter through, been looking to get a hold of an NBT to have a look but its an expensive project in the early days..

I was in a 420 this morning and the screen looks to be a different aspect ratio, very wide - will the screen fit a double hump e90 dash or is it going to be a completely custom fit?

yes if you get the 8.8 size one it fits, different connector so needs re-pin so does the controller but nothing major. Only real issue is the CBT unit itself, doesnt have the same front as the CIC so needs some "fettling"

Is the touch system controller the same size as the CIC? Just thinking if the centre trim needs to be modified.
I'm thinking CIC upgrade maybe the best option. |

Fitment of touch controller is different and therefore some alteration is required at the back.
I have planned to get one but then changing the complete setup for minor differences is not worthwhile.

what ive read / seen so far is the nbt comes with 2 different size screens, a 10 inch and 8.8 inch.....the 8.8 inch is the one needed. You then have to use your existing screen housing and remove your existing screen. The screen from the nbt has to be removed from its housing and re-housed in your original ccc or cic cid housing.
The front of the modified nbt looks like its from a cic unit. So again a donor cic unit looks like its needed for the front buttons if you are to do this on your own. The new nbt touch controller has its on ecu which runs on kcan 3 I think I read, which needs new cables run upto the e-nbt retrofit adapter to work. I also read the nbt unit doesn't screw into the existing holes and new holes are needed to be drilled in order to hold the unit...... Also depending on what options your vehicle already has, you might have to run new cables from the back of the car to the front. USB (6fl) and mic /speaker wires. so from what ive read and seen its not exactly a straight forward retrofit for e90 owners and I think folks will just go for cic + combox as its more oem than nbt. I have emailed bimmerretrofit for a quote but they haven't got back to me yet... |
