Which spark plugs should I run?
I'm sure this has been a previous post, but I am curious what spark plugs I should upgrade to. I have a full bolt on car and am about to upgrade with RB Turbos and Aquamist HFS-4 kit. Anyone have any advice to which they are running? I have heard NGK iridium, but not sure which specific one.

I have run the ngk 5992s. They are supposed to be an upgrade over stock, but I run e50 for fueling + meth, and all they seem to do is cause misfires in cooler weather (even when gapped to the recommended high boost gap of .022). My first set lasted 6-7k miles, and my current set have been on the car for about 1400 miles and are already giving me issues. I have a stock set of bosch plugs and when I get around to it, those will go back in. Ive never had any issues like this on stock plugs, and they last a lot longer than the ngks too.

I use Bosch in my Cobb tuned car. Change them out at 30K.

They may be a step colder but they don't last the same mileage as Bosch OEMs....Lots of people with experience of NGKs going at around 10-12k or even less...Add having to gap them yourself and it makes an easy decision for me..Bosch all the way I've even gone up to 30k+ on a set without a single misfire

You can get bosch plugs on Amazon and or eBay for under $70.00.
The coils are around $175.00 on Amazon. I would not waste money on coils as preventative maintenance, unless you are over 125k. You can get a Bosch app for your iPhone and get part numbers from it. I find it funny you will pay more for a part stamped BMW when comparing the exact same part without the BMW on it. Assemacher makes a nice one for about $20.00. Assenmacher Specialty Tools SP1412 14mm, 12-Point Thin Walled Spark Plug Socket. |

I appreciate all the advice. So Bosch sounds like the way to go, but I just want to confirm that they will be appropriate with the RB Turbos and methanol in the future?

I run NGK 5992 gapped to .022, still on stock turbos, JB4 map 5 with a 70/30 gasoline/e85 mixture. Zero issues so far, but they've only got 6k miles on them. My preference is NGK as I've run them in all of my turbocharged cars for the past 15 years, plus I prefer to set the gap myself.

Bosch plugs always gave me misfires on straight e85 and high boost on stock turbos. The NGK's usually last 7-10k miles depending on how hard you are running the car. I've yet to have a misfire with the 5992's, even on the stock map.

NGKs are actually pretty good for FOB cars, especially if getting upgraded Turbos. For cars closer to stock BOSCH is the way to go.

Is there any detrimental effect to the engine if you don't change the spark plugs in the recommended 45k miles? I mean, my Honda TSX factory recommendation says no spark plug change until 105k miles!! And it literally lasted beyond that. That was NGK of course.
I was under the assumption that if you don't ever have misfires, bad starts, etc. then you don't need to spend the money to change the spark plugs? |

I had misfires codes on two coils a few months ago, so I ended up replacing all 6 of my coils and at the same time replaced my plugs to NGK (had stock ones installed before).
NGK 5992 plugs work great if you're tuned. I didn't install them myself but got them gapped to 0.022. |

I run the NGK's and all I have is a tune, drop in filter and e30 mix. No issues thus far. I don't like the multi electrode and inability to gap stuff. I haven't had them long enough to gauge longevity.
