My review of Pirelli Sottozero tires after two winters
I've had the Sottozero Serie II for two winters, including the Detroit 2013-2014 winter with the 2nd highest amount of snow since records have been kept for ~130 years.
I have the OEM sport wheels, but I run 225/40-18 on all four corners. The rear tires have two winters on them (so about 15k miles), and the fronts are mixed (since I had a bubble on one that I replaced after one season). Grip has been outstanding for both seasons. I was simply amazed at the grip I got the first season. I would go easy on the throttle at initial acceleration, and just go, and when I tipped in more and more, I just get kept going, rarely slipping. For this past winter, with a little less tread and much more snow, I was able to engage TC more often, but never to the point of getting stuck. I have another bubble on a front tire, because I hit a massive pot hole about a month ago (like last winter). I love these tires, but I may look to get a set of 17 wheels and buy a new set before the end of the year, just to get some thicker sidewall to prevent more bubbling. If anyone is looking to pick up a set on special as the season closes out, I highly recommend these.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ight=sottozero these are the ones i bought, and i have put about 10-15k on them, but they are still great. get ahold of me if you have any interest in either just the 17" oem wheels with TPMS, or if you want the tires too. I have a Focus ST with summer only's and need winters anyway, and am very tempted to keep the tires and put them on my unpurchased new winter wheels. Last edited by kayza; 05-07-2014 at 08:16 PM.. |
