DIY window tinting

thought id have a go at the rear windows on my mk2 discovery, nice flat easy to get at windows, how hard can it be? looked at several vids on it. getting the backing off is the hardest part, then the tint sticks to itself resulting in some lovely creases that are permanent. then you try to trim the edges and unless the tint is flat it tears resulting in a lovely jagged edge. final result? all screwed up in a ball on the floor, went indoors to watch a recorded 5th gear.

BUT you'd be surprised how much you learnt there in that experience! Id say have another go! Take yr time and address all the issues / mistakes you made!

Next time use talk powder on the opposite side of the window it reduces the static
Cut the film as near as you can to the glass size it's not that bad once you have had a few goes at it

Spray bottle with a teaspoon of baby shampoo is your friend. Rough cut to size, peel corner slightly using two pieces of tape (one on each side - tint side, and release sheet side) - enough so you can grab with your fingers. Spray down window with solution, spray corner of tint that you just peeled, start peeling apart and spray down adhesive (between sides) as you go, place tint on window, slide into place, spray down window / back side of tint, squeegee bubbles from the center out, repeat spray and squeegee several times to ensure all bubbles and solution is pushed out, trim with razor blade, sit back and have a beer while admiring work.

From what I've seen, use of a hairdryer can also help in those areas that you might need to shrink the film depending on window curvature
