changing driveline fluids. which ones to use?
So I think when my next oil change is due I will do the spark plugs and change the front, rear and transfer case fluids. My car has a 6-speed manual trans. Im wondering which fluid should I use in my trans? Also, which fluids are recommended for the front and rear diffs? 75w-90? ECS sells a transfer case service kit which ill probably use. I have read something about resetting the transfer case adaptations or something after fluid replacement or I will get 4x4 errors. IS that true? Thanks in advance.

I think BMW is the only transfer case oil available. It. Is about $50-60 a liter. The rear and front differentials can use AMSOIL or redline 75-90 gear oil.
I don't know anything about resetting adaptations after changing this oil. I changed all differentials and the transfer case last summer on my wife's e70 x5. No issues. You will need a snub 14mm Allen. Assemacher makes one for the transfer case. Sort of a b@tch to get to on the x5 without it. Make sure you can open the fill before you open the drain. I don't think the rear will have a drain. So you will need a brake vacuum to suck out the old fluid. |

I have Liquimolly GL5 in the diffs for my E90 and E88. Honestly can't feel any difference between than and OE.
