Reverse Camera Power

For those of you that has installed a reverse camera where did you guys draw power from? I installed myself awhile ago and was working perfectly. I connected the positive directly to the battery in the trunk. However, I guess I'm not suppose to because I started getting the 2ded code "Power management, closed circuit current monitoring." I read on other threads this could be caused by hooking directly to the battery of aftermarket electronics. I'm hoping this is the issue. Anyway, disconnected it form the battery and wondering where I should connect the positive to.

You need to wire it to a switched 12 volt source, or remote wire if you have an aftermarket headunit.

So on my camera, there is a filter. I attached the camera power to the reverse light. And the filter needs a constant power source. Any ideas?

No, You will need to use a relay or else it won't work properly. Your brake light will be the trigger, and you need to wire the camera power to a constant 12v. I think I wired mines up to the battery.

So I need the filter and the relay? And if I power the camera to the battery it should be fine? Wouldn't it still draw power throwing the code? Basically I don't want that code to pop up again.

im not sure what the filter is, but if your wiring the camera power directly to the reverse light, it will go all static and cut out because the power isn't stable.

We need more info on how everything is wired. Do you have aftermarket headunit or idrive?

Mine is wired to my remote wire so the camera turns on with the headunit. When I put it into reverse the connects2 harness supplies the signal that changes the screen to the rear view camera.

Mines connected to the drive through a multimedia unit.
