Shifting an auto 335 in the quarter mile?
I have read that you should short shift the auto in a quarter mile run around 6,200. You guys that have ran in the 12's, do you short shift?

Things I would try from what I read: shift at redline in 1 and 2nd then 6,200 there after... and shift every time at 6,200. I may also try backing down on the brake torque. I was building rpm's on the line around 2,500-2,800 (to build boost), but I should really try around 1,800. It seemed the higher I went, it was a bit more bogged. |

Too bad you didn't make it today. The DA at greatlakes was like -1100 feet!!!! Awesome ETs today. I got a 13.228 in a completely stock IS350 with spare tire and all. My best launch was a 1.918 but only topped out at 104.55 for that run so I got a 13.234 for that one.

No, i dont short shift at all, All you have to do in an auto is leave it in DS mode. Hold down the break and raise the RPM to 2000 and then let the DS do the job. Oh make sure you hit the DTC button once. Changing the tires will greatly help aswell.

Couldn't Timtech raise the RPM a little more than you due to his AWD vehicle? He was already pulling 1.8's for 60 feet which is pretty good. |

I don't think I've got a hot one - just good conditions. The week before another IS350 at great lakes did 13.3 but his DA was -800 vs my -1100. I think this is only average after a couple years of breaking in.

That is VERY good for an IS350. I was there the last weekend and seen the other guy doing 13.3/13.4. He even put his radials into the water. I just got back from going this morning and pulled a 12.930 at 108.74. I'm still getting 1.842 for a 60 foot. I have posted my slip to dragtimes in both the 335i and 335xi section - it can take up to 24 hours to show up. I found that 2,500 is best for the XI to launch at. More than that, the brakes start to let go. I ran four 12.93's in a row and headed out since it's very consistant for a car that can carry the family and drive in the winter. I would say I'm very impressed with the Turbo Tuner. My Procede (1.47) felt stronger but a 12.9 is a 12.9 on a pretty stock car with all season tires. |

Why did you get rid of the procede for a turbo tuner? BTW, congrats on breaking into the 12s! I want to mod to get into the 12s but there really aren't any good mods for my car. I am considering Volks which would reduce unsprung rotational weight by 40 pounds or so which should have a pretty big impact but I'm not ready to dish out 3k for rims just yet for my daily driver.

Somewhere on this board is info on the new Dinan stuff for a 335i. In there are dyno runs showing max HP at 5600 RPM with the torque holding up pretty well at that point. I'd think if you're going to manually shift the auto, that'd be the point at which to do it. My '02 Camaro SS manual trans did it's best times with the shift at 5500 - 5800 rather than running it into the 6's. Might apply to the 335 as well.

I've run all my best times in DS mode and pressing the dtc button just once....With it turned completely off, my times were all slower because of the wheel spin...
