What are the best upgrade options for the base system? I'm looking to buy an E92 2011 coupe and it doesn't have the HK system.

Does it have Hi Fi or base stereo ?
In 2011 there were two types of non pay for it stereo types
in the US . The ampless tweeterless system for the first half
of the year and the re-instituted Hi Fi in the rest of the year.

Correct Technic harness dependent on system.
Speaker adapters if needed

For stereo tweeter less and ampless system add BMW
Tweeter pods and a frequency flattening device or processor.

There are many choices for amps and speakers.
Most of the speaker options are kind of expensive
as they are of a rare size and have to be slim to fit.

Your budget and if you can DIY will determine how far
you go.

Go see Unexpected Creations in Edison NJ they are the go to
shop in the North East.
They also carry Jehnerts which are some of the better speakers
that fit in the coupe. The coupe has even thinner doors so the
speaker selection is more restricted.
