1-2 miss shift.....?
I was doing a couple runs with a friend (G35) killed him everytime except for one. It felt as if the car didnt let me put it in to 2nd. i got stuck in neutral for a second revving like an idiot....? is this just my driving or is it something with CDV..? this happens some times in 3rd too, only when im red lining the car before i shift.
Any answers can help...

I've missed second gear more times than I can count and I'm not a beginner either. Do I just suddenly suck or does my car not like to be hustled into second? I'm going with the latter. If grinding sounds were cash I'd be rollin"!!
Funny thing is, I nail the 2-3 shift every time and in the past, that was my weakness. Now I just slow down my 1-2 shifting just a little bit and make like a granny. |

This gearbox is pretty long in between gears, and I have found that if I give it some gas in 1st gear, on my shift to 2nd I really need to smash it into gear or you will find yourself getting caught with a nasty grind. Coming from an S2K where I could just flick my wrist from gear to gear, even when pushing the car, this has taken some getting use to, but after grinding 2nd gear twice I have learned my lesson. BTW, I have had my CDV removed since the 2nd week I had my car.

I had the same issue on my 335i coupe. It would grind really bad into second but all other gears worked fine. The dealer I bought it from said I was driving it too hard. I brought it to another dealer in Dallas (this dealer has its own racing team) and they replaced the entire transmission for me because it was defective. I have not had any issues since. I would suggest finding a good service rep and a mechanic who possibly race their own cars and understand that these cars are meant to be driven hard

i have experience what you are talking about, it only does it in second. for me i found if i shift higher than 6800 rpms it will do it if i was grabbing 2nd really had it didn't like it, it needed to be more of smooth quick shift rather than trying to pull down as hard as you can into second. if i am at higher than 6800 rpms.

i occasionally miss 2nd the same as the rest of you... thought it was just me up until now. for some reason, it comes outta first but never makes it into 2nd and you end up stuck in neutral...
it seems to happen to me less now though, after 1 year of owning the car. i think the 1-2 shift overall has loosened up just a bit over time, its not as bad as it was before.

I have the same problem. I really think this is reoccurring problem for many of us. This happens at least 2 times a week. So annoying! Is there anything we can tell the dealer? 2nd gear has always been notchy/grinding
