Plug-n-Play Remapping

I'm thinking about remapping and wondered if anyone has gone, or has experience of, the Plug-n-Play route and these guys in particular. DTUK

A plug in box is not a remap, it is altering the signals the ECU is receiving and making it basically add more fuel.

I understand that, but if an add-on box intercepts the signals from the sensor and tells the ECU a different level which the ECU responds to then surely the overall effect is the same as a remap? Same principle as the Power Commander I used on my bike. That sat between the sensors and the ECU and effectively modified the fuel map.

In principle yes, but it's not an ideal way of doing the job as it can affect other aspects of the car, like mpg readouts. In my experience an add-on box may give you much more power but the way it is delivered often falls far short of a good remap, which will probably cost you less than the box of tricks

Sort of, it's like tearing bread instead of cutting it, you'll get the job done, but it's not as accurate or correct. Power delivery may be very sudden. MPG and miles to empty will be wrong. Will still tail off at the top end, have flat spots etc.

It will use a lot more fuel than a proper remap too.

Thanks - a bit cruder way of doing it then and no advantage other than easy reversion back to original.

You can get remaps that sit on hand held units so you are able to remove then reinstall the enhanced map as and when you feel like it, going in for service for example. Best of both worlds and better than a tuning box.

Bluefin from superchips is pretty good for the price. Limited to one car though.

I was thinking more about real live maps from the likes of BW chip tune and other similar places that are custom but stored on a device that allows self instal / deinstall.
