Spare cable off the battery

Hi brothers and sisters
I had reason to disconnect my battery and once I finally got to it I found an extra cable with connector not attached to anything. Any ideas? Or is it just a spare for a future option? '09 E93
Thanks

Hah, I did mine as well yesterday and noticed this cable. I didn't see anywhere it could go or anything that could connect to it, so I'm assuming it's a diagnostic cable or similar.

Took me a damn hour to do the physical install, and then of course had to do the programming so the car doesn't reject the battery. The irony that such an asinine and hard to work with battery setup is called "Intelligent Battery System" by BMW.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this cable have something to do with not having the battery go flat during shipping from the BMW production facility?
