Blank Key Fob
My bag was stolen while i was on holiday and it took me a while to realise the contents i'd lost which sadly included my spare key.
So, i'm trying to figure out if it is at all possible to buy a new one and program it myself and would appreciate comments and recommendations. Also, anyone have any idea how much stealers charge to replace this.

You don't program the key. The keys all have a unique fixed electronic ID.
You have to program the car to accept the new key. Don't forget the metal conventional key tucked away inside your key body, you'll need that too. |

To cut a key you need a blank to start from, but AFAIK you can't buy blanks. Of course, BMW will sell you the pre-cut key to match your vehicle (you get the key number from your remaining key) |

Did you have travel insurance? Could try and claim off that if you did.
