Do I want the alpina flash?

I've been doing some reading but can't decide if I should get it done or not. Currently have JB4 and DCIs fitted and soon to get my dps installed. I also have a LSD.

What can i expect? Would it really be worth the money? Let me hear your experiences.

It cost me $125 to get the flash which included unlimited coding so yes it's worth the money. Once you get your DP's installed I'd highly recommend the flash because it helps with timing drops post shift. I had doubts like you but get the flash and you'll see.

Are you close to Makkan? You could give it a go and see how you feel with it. It's always reversible.
I think it's superb. Transforms the drive. The changes are so much smoother and quicker.

Agreed. But the cost of the cable is prohibitive for just the single flash job.

I think the majority of people who've had it done would say it's a must tbh, me included. D does change up a little earlier, which may not be to everyone's taste but I like it, S and manual modes really do show off how good the gearbox and engine combination can be even though it's a normal auto. Quick changes and perfect rev matching, the car feels like it's chomping at the bit to fly when provoked!
I've had 3 dsg equipped cars and the Alpina flash brings it up to almost dsg levels of quickness.
Its also nice to see the gear you are in at all times.
I bought a lead and did the flash myself, a little scary but actually straight forward with various guides on the net

No it's not, as it's the same cable you use for fault scanning and codding . I did quote a few m3 smg's and it's basically same shit as alpina flash

Thanks for the heads up. Will defo look into this.

My issue is that i dont want to use DS all the time so want D to have a bit of eagerness about itself as well. Suppose ideal for me is D stay as it is and DS and M get the flash!

Lol...i aint picky...honest!!

I believe there is a "sport" flash as well if the Alpina doesn't suit. I've no experience of that though as I'm more than happy with the Alpina

So you are agreeing with me..... but you're not..?

I never saw the op mention anything other than the Alpina flash.

You have spend a lot on your car bud. You could have opted for it when you were with me and if you did not like, I could have reverted it.

But give it at least 2 -4 weeks to see the real comparison.

Would this flash be recognised by bmw if you took it in for any warranty work?
Or wouldnt they batter an eyelid if its an alpina thing?

Trying to get this done over in NI, happy to pay someone to do it as i don't have the cable but can't find anyone to do it here.
Any cheap places to get the cable in the UK?

I had the Alpina for several months and to be honest now I've gone back to standard I don't actually miss it.

I now have a useable D mode that doesn't change up 5 gears in the space of 5 seconds. I was constantly using Manual mode to change gear when I wanted. The gear shifts in the standard manual mode also don't seem any slower than the Aplina..certainly not noticeably anyway.
