Tyres worn on Outer Edge ... again
I replaced my RTFs with Goodyear Eagle F1 non-RFT tyres last February and have since driven about 16,000 miles.
I had to ditch the RFTs as the front tyres where badly wearing on the outer edges. From a topic I made back then, this seemed to be par for the course with RFTs. When I had the F1's fitted, I also had an alignment done just to be sure. Just 1 adjustment needed to be made. I had a look at my tyres today, and both fronts are again wearing badly on the outer edges. Any ideas what could be wrong? I have been running the tyres at the pressure listed in the door pillar. The rears still look brilliant, with plenty of tread left and nice even wear. Not sure if related but the car also makes a squeak noise from the front suspension when going over speed bumps. Thanks for reading. |

Looks and I'm guessing here that the cars been aligned with possible worn suspension components, tyre exhaust places and I know this track cars with worm arms only to find the customers car isn't right or even worse that it was post alignment cars can sometime feel skittish at speed steering can feel edgy. They simply see the word tracking and I'm not saying all do this but we've seen a fair few places that simply carry out the required (in theory adjustments)without actually addressing the route cause which can be bush/worn arm related, the amount of worn eye bushes we see on Z4's E46's that have been missed beggers belief(but part of the issue might lie in the process these places follow)as they hear what the customer thanks is needed and just does it, without the most important thing if all and that's addressing why the problem has arisen.
So I'm going to guess and say that the lower arms may have adverse play(we call them brake force arms)there's been a fair bit about them posted on here bit if they are worn squeaking over speed humps, a slight kickback/jolt/judder when lightly applying the foot brake are all the hall marks of these having their final say before they're toast. The other sign of a squeak from the front could also be down to the front anti links where the rubbers split(common MOT failure) A decent garage will be able to verify this but changing them can transform the drive but take it to a decent BMW Indy Last edited by old grey steve; 04-26-2014 at 03:33 PM.. |

Thanks for the reply steve.
Would I notice anything if the lowers arms have play? The car seems to handle perfectly fine. Looking for a decent independent around the Richmond area. Hopefully have this looked at asap. |

Anybody know a decent indy near Richmond?
Dont fancy taking the car to a main dealer for this. Would increasing the pressure by 0.2-0.3 bar help with this at all? (in the short term...) |

I had the same problem with both my last 2 sets of tyres
Started running 38PSI (non RFT though) at the front and now looks like it's fairly even wear across the tyre |

On the door post I think it says 2.1 bar for the fronts and 2.7 for the rears.
38 PSI is about 2.6 bar, so are you pretty much running the fronts the same as the rears? Maybe ill put the pressure up to about 2.4 at the front. |
