EGR Block Off Plate - Reset Tool Suggestions

Hi Guys,

For those of you now resetting your codes every startup, which is the simplest tool for the job.

I have seen two on Bav Auto for doing this job. I would also like the tool to be able to reset the oil change interval.

BlueDriver - Bluetooth scan tool
Launch CReader OBD-II Engine Fault Code Reader and Reset Tool

Any feedback is appreciated.

I do not bother resetting mine. What is the point, anyway. When I get my re-tune, it shall take care of the SES light for the EGR, etc.

The point for myself is that I already have my DDE flashed with the Evolve tune and have no interest in getting another when I may possibly only have this car for another year before getting an X4 35D.

I leave my bms CANtool plugged in all the time. Its not real powerful as a scanner but it is really convenient to just be able to reach down and press a button for a second. Also makes the process pretty much invisible to passengers

There's actually no benefit to completely removing the cooler .. Maybe save a pound over the front wheels?

The coolant bypass you will have to make will probably look more hokey than the removed cooler

In any case we can probably come up with a solution to remove it if you are set on it.

It's about 4.5 lbs of saved weight. Out in front of the axle and fairly high. With the engine cover on the bypass isn't noticeable at all.

However, if you would've had your kit available before I went down that path ... I would maybe still have the cooler in place.

Wasn't there other benefit in keeping the cooler, as in you get a faster warm up and less fuelling at start-up?

It wouldn't matter if cooler is corked up. The exhaust gas dumps heat to coolant system if normal gas flow through cooler.

Mark,

Is BMWhat able to clear the long term MIL code stored?

I borrowed a friends generic just to see if it could clear codes. It can clear the instant code, but not the stored code so the light stays on.

The light doesn't really bug me, but once in a while it would be nice on a long trip to be able to clear the long term code that is stored.

Thanks

Yes bmwhat clears shadow codes and the mil codes. The ses light does turn off.
