Checking out bike racks for my 335i

I'm in SE Michigan, and I'm looking for feedback on roof mounted bike racks, or rear bumper hitches (like Curt). I probably would only need to carry at most 3 bikes, as we'll take the wife's vehicle when all five in the family are riding.

Are roof racks "better" for certain bike types, or for 2 or less bikes?

We have a bumper hitch on our Flex, and a four bike Yakima Class III rack. It's too big for the standard Curt BMW hitch, so I'd need to buy a new one for my car if I went that route.

Any shops around SE Michigan that any of you have experience installing these? (bumper racks, obviously roof racks are straight forward DIY).

thanks in advance for your input!

-Marc
