Will these work?!?!?!

I drive a 2008 335XI and I am going to run a staggered set up. I have some concerns with the XI technology and calibration. Will this set up affect that?

Style95 rims 19 x 9, 19 x 10 et +24 all around
Tires 235/35/19 (brand new)
245/35/19 (some wear)

Am I good to go?!?!
Thanks!

The x-drive systems are much more sensitive to rolling diameters than their rear-drive cousins. I do not know the max difference, but on some all-wheel drive vehicles, even one tire out of spec (say you need to replace one because of damage) means you must replace all four.

your at 1.07% difference... should be OK. I was always told not to go over 1... will the .07% make a difference? To me... no (but thats IMO)

Stock msports i believe run staggered setups and they come in Xdrive.

Wheels are perfect, but you need a 265/30/19 in the rear. You'll also have to roll the rear fenders. Should be perfectly flush .

Yeah the 1% is the magical upper limit of the diameter difference. Also in this case front tyres are new and rear tyres are worn, so the difference is probably more than .07%.

Like bmw325i said it will fit with 265/30/19 rear, but fender roll might be needed. Depends on your suspension setup. Member Chuck had these fitted without fender roll and no rubbing with stock sport suspension.http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=593421

Fronts are 2 weeks old, rears have like 90% tread left... He's selling them as a package for $1,200 (which i feel is a great price, do you?) and lives 10 mins away from me. I want to just go for it. I'm lowering with h&r coilovers professionally.

If you were me, would you guys do it?

I really don't want to buy new tires

A new transmission is going to cost you more than the right sized tires. I would try to get him down a little and sell the rear tires on Craigslist.

Just thinking.... what about stretching? technically your changing the "height" of the tire because your angling the sidewall correct?

So if your ratio is 0.236% but then stretch the hell out of both of them... see where im going...?

Well buy the package and sell the rear tyres and buy 265/30/19. I wouldn't use setup that it's over the 1%. No matter how little it is over.

True and the 1% is the upper limit. It's always best to go as close to 0% difference as possible with xdrive. Like in this case best tyre combo would be 225/35/19 front and 265/30/19 rear.

I think that, it cant be so big difference that it would have any affect, but i do know what you mean.

Im assuming the car will sound a bunch of warnings if it doesnt like it.

but im running a 225 stretched and a 225 stretched. If "normal" they are like .2% but when you start decreasing sidewall height your going to start messing with diameter... But I think your right... hopefully its not too much that it makes a diffference...

Are you planning some new setup in addition to those CCW's?

Most likely, but i think it could only happen if you have the diameter difference already little bit over the 1.0% before the stretching. Not when you are well under 1%.

kinda already did... hahaha

9.5F and 11R same tire sizes 225/40 and 255/35.

I dont want to to any wider then a 1.5" difference F->R

Both tires are stretched... Might be WAY overthinking this.

I think I have 0.25"+ difference to play with between the 2... (265/35 and 225/40 is 0.8x% with 0.26? difference).

Guess i know what im doing tonight...

I don't think stretching makes any real difference in diameter. Think of it this way if you had a circle can you squeeze it to make a smaller circle out of it without removing any material?

true. What your saying makes sense. I do believe you cant shrink a tires overall circle size (if that makes sense... circle size...) Yes that material is there to stay... Thats like trying to make a washer shrink in size... But when stretching it you are more or less changing how much of the inner space of the washer touches the bolt.... lol my analogy sucks.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...fect-diameters
found that too... thank god...

case closed:
NOTE: because the overall diameter of a steel belted radial is determined by the steel belts, there is little, if any, change to the overall diameter of the tire due to differences in rim width.

which is what you really car about when playing with Xdrive.

sorry totally jacked your thread bud.

you can run a little stretch. I am xi and when I had the 95s i did 225/35 and 255/30. Wasn't maximum stretch but it's a personal preference

so after measuring my tires, outside circumference.

circumference = 2*pi*R = D*pi

Front- 225/40 ~ 78 10/16" (circumference) ~~~ Dia = 25.03" (online they say 25.09") DIFF: 0.06" SMALLER

Rear- 255/35 ~ 78 7/16" (circumference) ~~~ Dia = 24.98" (online they say 25.03") DIFF: 0.05" SMALLER

SOOOO yes stretching does shrink tire (but not much). Glad to put this to rest.

Thank you 4 years of math...

UPDATE: I decided not to cheap out and bought brand new everything... Whats my ideal tire size to make this set up work? I plan on installing coilovers. I like how the 235/35/19's look because they make the wheel lip pop so I guess I'm a fan of a slight stretch.

Recommendations for making these look low pro and sick.... yet functional?
(they arrive tomorrow)

Thanks!

235/35/19 and 265/30/19 should work perfectly. You just need to roll the rear fenders.
