So in the process of purchasing an AUC car and their is a few defects on the car so car the car is being prepped as we speak however they are refusing to change the gloss black trim that goes over the window as it has a bubble in it
What are your thoughts ?

If its a defect it should be replaced without issue. For example, I bought a 320d a couple of years back and the rear badge was starting to corrode. They ordered a new one, fitted it, no issues. This should be the same.

Yeah that's exactly my point it's a defect just like all the rest and it should be replaced. I'm speaking to the sales manager today see what he says

Also the door card has a rip in it they said they have trim specilists to sort this out and they will not replace

Walk away. Imagine the hassle you will have if there is something wrong post sale. Trouble waiting to happen.

I'm going to speak to the sales manager see what he says as the salesman is bringing the car in from another dealership and is saying it's the manager in that dealership who won't replace it. See what the sales manager says

Dont accept the car until its sorted, that piece is around £300 to replace.

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks this, but you're looking at buying an approved USED car.

So, with that in mind (and as much as I don't like most dealerships attitudes), I think it's a little unfair to expect the kind of things one might expect on a used car to be fixed free of charge.

if it was a new car, then absolutely right it should be fixed.

With a used car - be it from a main dealer or independent - minor cosmetic blemishes are par for the course, and it is totally at the dealerships discretion.

If you're not happy with it, for the price that is being asked then leave it. If you can negotiate a bit of discount to allow you to get the bits sorted out, then all well and good. Perhaps you could see if they could get the work done using their people, at preferential rates perhaps?

Bottom line - it's a used car at a used car price. Take it or leave it. They have no responsibility to replace anything, unless it is something that is dangerous, clearly mechanically wrong or an MOT failure item.

If someone else had something replaced on a used car they were buying form another dealer, then that's because the dealer figured the sale of the car was worth the cost of them replacing a trim on - not because they were obliged to.

Just had a look at the auc terms and conditions and it appears that corrosion is not covered under warranty or anything else. In fact the warranty on a auc car doesnt seem to cover an awful lot. Maybe i was just lucky with the good will of my dealership.

It's a 2010 with only 14000 on the clock so I'm aware that it is out of warranty

You should expect some wear on tear on a car.

However most dealers would be happy to tidy up thing to conclude a sale.

A 2010 car shouldn't have bubbling trim or torn door cards. A dealer shouldn't be avoiding replacing them if asked.

Honestly OP, you're not happy with the dealer or their car.

The only way to put that over is to walk away. Plenty of other BMWs out there.

I did it with my 335i.

I gave him a list of things I wanted sorted, and asked to do the deal on that basis.

Alloys refurb.
Scraped under the front bumper - needed a refurb.
A couple of paint chips.

As there's a cost involved to get these sorted, they had to factor this into the price.
I was happy, so did the deal on that basis.

I know that this all sounds obvious, but I think that it's the only way forward.

Yeah the things you've mentioned are being done as the cars wheels are corroded stone chips touched in and a scrape under the bumper

What's your deal like? If it's great buy it if not walk away. The trim should not be bubbling at that age and mileage

It's more about the car as in its really low millege fits the spec I want and there isn't many other 335i around or the ones that are out of my budget I've spoke to the sales manager who is going to update me in the morning so see what happens

They'll get these done under goodwill.See them replaced couple sets a week. manufacturing flaw on LCI cars that causes them to bubble. 100% BMW pay for these outside of warranty regardless of owner history/service history/ etc

Yeah I totally agree they should be replaced as it's not damage that causes this it's faulty materials.especially on a fairly new flagship car.
