Dinan Turbo Upgrade
Have you guys seen this, anyone have more info on the turbos used in the Dinan 1M and how much boost their Stage 4 software is pushing?

Sounds monstrous...nice to see more tuning offered for the N54.
Stage 4 software has my attention, 444hp/450tq, and for only an additional $400 for those of us that have S3. Thanks for posting!

Interesting. If Dinan is making this power with their conservative tuning these turbos might be good for some good power with a more aggressive tune and some fueling.
The article doesn't mention what fuel is being used but I would assume race gas??? |

Dinan upgraded turbos for $3K??!?! seems low....I figured if they put out upgrades they'd be $10K....because its Dinan.
At the end of the day, I cut the check to RB or VTT before even considering Dinan. Their S is overpriced and never gives you the bang they claim it will.

It only mentions upgrading one wheel (compressor), not both. I think we've seen this type of upgrade thought of before. Less than stellar for the N54. For a twin upgrade doing both wheels seems to be proven to get the most out of the stock housings. Generally speaking, the "stage 2 type" upgrades (Turbo Dynamics, Rob Beck), with TD04L-15T wheels + CHRA, and appropriate supporting mods, gets you 560 crank HP (480whp) on 93 octane and meth injection, and 520 crank HP on 93 octane alone (440-450whp). More on Race gas, e85, meth.

Agree, but Dinan is literally over 4 years late to the "stage 1" N54 twin turbo upgrade party. The compressor only wheel upgrade is what the community typically called the stage 1 upgrade for the N54. The "stage 1" area also includes:
Turbo Dynamics Stage 1: http://www.hybridturbos.com/hybrid-t...turbochargers/ Helix Stage 1: http://store.helix13.com/helix-n54-turbo-upgrade-kit/ EPL Stage 1: No active site, http://www.eplabs.net/, but a story about an e90 member going with them here: http://www.bimmerpost.com/tag/turbo-upgrade/. That member has since moved on to Vargas Stage 2 Vargas Stage 1: http://performance.vargasturbo.com/products/ Stage 2 options: TD Stage 2, Rob Beck, Vargas Stage 2 I know of a 1M within 50 miles of me with RB's. It must be crazy fun to drive. Last edited by scottp999; 05-02-2014 at 02:25 PM.. |

I can think of far better things to do on an N54 motor and e90 platform with that much coin.

This upgrade can be done for $500 by paying most competent turbo shops to rebuild the turbos and just use a different wheel...I was excited for a minute...but then I realized it's Dinan...of course they'll under deliver! LOL

Can you really blame them... They're not only trying to make a profit but cover people/themselves incase of catastrophe.. I saw the light from this site that building your own bolt on through the MANY reputable companies doing n54 work on every part available is plenty safe for the platform but again, they're just covering their ass.

If you can't tell...this shit pisses me off. As does Hennessey, and other performance companies that have unjust price points.

Not all of us are a DIY person. If I have an issue with a tune or mode I just take it to a "preffered" shop, and go about my business with work and play not having to break a sweat or get a headache over trying to diagnose and fix. This comes with a price though, and some people see it being worth it over the hassle rather than having to post stuff on forums and hope someone is in a good mood to reply or get no replies and then the post goes dead. Eventually I had to break out of being "spoiled" with this treatment because when all warranty does run out I am going to have to give up the car for another one, especially with the new warranty policy BMW has implemented on replacement parts even make it worse. Its all a gamble, best path to take if you want to be a serious enthusiast is start learning how to be a DIY person for the most part. As for the Dinan Turbo upgrade, we will have to wait a see what their warranty policy is on their turbo ugprade. If the policy requires only their tuning software then huston we have a problem, if not, then you will have two years of warranty on these turbo upgrades that you not going to get anywhere else. |

Initially there turbo upgrade seemed to cheap to be true from Dinan, but now I get it - 3 grand for basically 2 compressor wheels installed - now it seems priced like I would expect!

Now, one thing I don't know is what kind of support dealers have for Dinan. Can you take the car to the dealer to have them fix something or no? If so, then that further backs up the price they ask, if not, then it further decreases the value. Never dealt with them so not sure how they handle their shit.
