Help please! Car's engine shuts off in Neutral when coming out of gear

Hi,
Been to two indy shops and yet to solve the issues.

The car:
2009 328i, manual

The issue:
When placing the car in neutral after in gear, when rev's are 4,000rpm or higher, the RPM's will drop down under 500rpm, flatter around abit, then drop all the way to 0RPM and car will shut off.

The engine has no idle issues and only shuts off when you let the RMP's drop going out of gear.

When driving around town normally, shifting at 3,000rpm, engine doesn't stall, but when the RPMs hit 500rpm, it'll bounce up to 1,000rpm, the settle back at 500rpm.

Both indy shops checked via smoke test that there are no intake vacuum leak, nor is there MAF code thrown. There are also no codes recorded when engine shuts off. No engine light is found on the dash as well. No oil in the eccentric shaft sensor as well.

Any similar experience? any ideas?

Thanks!

is the car an N51 or N52? This seems like something unusual Have you tried the usual MAF cleaner, change plugs... etc?

Hi
It's the N52.

I've cleaned the MAF and no errors are thrown for it.

Would faulty Sparks Plugs cause this? no misfire or any errors are found. And both garages didn't say anything about them.

hmm yeah i cant think of anything common. Not Disa valves since its the n52.. my best guess is a sensor is going out. The only one ive heard of going out is the eccentric shaft sensor which is easy to check if there is oil on the connector which means its failing. It is right on the valve cover and easy to check. there is a DIY for checking it so maybe start there.. the weird thing is that most sensors when going bad will give an error code.. no good ideas from me. sorry
