I ran M359's on mine on pretty crappy urban roads. Never again is all I will say..
Nightmare to have them crack from dailying and babying.

Something you will find is alot of the replica companies actually make their business by selling stock wheels to OEMs, take Rota for example. Wheels arent some made unregulated black market where you can make any old shite and get away with it lol

Think I'm moving away from them now. £1400 without tyres. Bit pricey......
I'm going down to see Mark at BMAutosport on Sat. See what we can come up with |

Nearly all "decent" brand wheels are made in Taiwan.
I had the Avantgarde's before I got my Quantum44s. The only issue I had was with the lacquer starting to go milky in a few tiny places, but to be fair, I think that is likely on a lot of diamond cut and lacquered wheels. |

Yeah I went to BMauto today and went for the CS Y spoke concave matt black atomics. he said the M359's are made in Taiwan just like the atomics and all the rest. You just pay for the avant grade name. They look the nuts on the car. i'll get some pics up tomorrow

I have AG m359. Last night I hit a pot hole (didn't think it was that hard) and rear right tire blown. I pulled the rim and there were cracks in 5 different areas. Last summer, didn't hit anything, just had a nail in the tire and there was a crack in my rear left. I'm going to check my other rims but I'm losing faith in the durability of the AGs.

i hit the square end of a fully protruding kerb at about 30mph (evasive action after some tool over cooked it round a corner and was understeering into my side of the road) and all it did was destroy the tyre and put a slight dent in the rim. Genuine BBS wheels don't die very easily at all. |

Worst part of it was I don't remember doing it. They have quite a lip on the inside of the wheel and it's very exposed especially when running stretched tyres so all I can think is I've caught a manhole cover with it. I had it welded twice which didn't work so I had to buy another one

No I was running the standard 265 tyre, I'm just trying to think of possible scenarios to try defend a high quality wheel and put it down to driver error. I should have changed the when to 'if'

The irony is that cheap Chinese wheels can be a poorer quality alloy, which is actually softer - so your wheels end up going out of shape a lot easier, giving obvious balancing issues - rather than cracking like genuine BMW/BBS wheels.
Increasingly shit roads, firm suspension and wider, larger diameter wheel/lower profile tyre combinations will inevitably lead to cracked wheels at some point regardless of brand or how much you paid for them. If you have genuine BBS wheels, they are likely to be lighter than some other brands - that's what you pay the money for - it doesn't mean they are any more or less resistant to cracking if smacked down a massive pothole. I had some replica Hamman style split rims on a previous car (BMautosport sell them) - one of which took the full impact of a car do an estimated 30-40mph stoving in the passenger front quarter. Whilst various suspension bits (including the steering rack) snapped, the wheel (whilst scuffed, admittedly!) remained perfectly true and un-cracked at all, and the original tyre (again, mangled) still held air. |

Many differing factors. But basically I found out what I wanted to know. Avant Garde is just a Taiwanese product with a brand name |

I think you'll find the vast majority of alloys are made over there. Mark @ BMAutosport will tell you the same thing. (top bloke, by the way - highly recommend him. I've had....er....far too many sets of wheels to think about from him over the years!)
