New Radiator already after overheating?

Went to BMW I have 56,000 miles on 2011 335. I had to get a new radiator and thermostat for 1300$ Because the car went into limp mode and over heated. Does this make sense? Seems kinda early to replace a radiator. Also it looks like the same radiator to me. Or am I looking at the inter cooler? Any feedback or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Why would they change the thermostat and not the electric water pump? Both are usually done together because the water pump usually fails at about your milage. Don't know why they would change the radiator but when i had my water pump and thermostat changed $1300 is almost exactly what it cost.

Yeah it was probably the water pump. Inter cooler is on the bottom; radiator is on the top.

Thanks, SA prolly typed it up wrong... Maybe I'll call to follow up. At least it works and seems to be an appropriate cost

Did you hear a loud auxiliary fan noise when the problem occurred?

I had a new rad at 49k and the rad is In between the fan plastics and the ac rad so it is hard to see if you have a new one.

Do you believe there was any engine damage? I mean it runs great now?

Fan was blasting becuz the water pump failed. It won't do damage thats why the car goes into limp mode to protect itself.
