4" coax suggestion?
I'm gathering the parts needed to upgrade the godawful "base" stereo system in my 2010 E92. In the front doors will be a set of Focal 100 KRS components, and I'm wondering about swapping out the rear full ranges drives with a good pair of coax's.
I've been away from the audio game for years, and have no clue as to which (if any) coax might be a good match the Focal drivers. What I've going to install: JL xd600/6 amp, JL cleansweep, JL cl-ses for aux/additional inputs and a pair of underseat SW8 subs. If the SW8's don't provide enough bottom end I've got my old reliable JL 10w3 DVC to put in the trunk and a soundstream class a 6.0 to drive it. Input on swapping the rear drivers? Is it worth it, or should I just leave them and drive them with HU power somehow? |

That depends. If you like a lot of sound coming from the rears, I'd say upgrade them. However, if you are mainly concerned with the front sound stage (which the rears detract from), then you can either leave them out or just fade them in a tad (in which case the stockers would be fine).
Generally, people who listen to EDM or who prefer the "whole car sound" want to have the rears play as loud as the fronts. People who are concerned mainly with staging and imaging (having the singer and/or instruments "placed" on a stage in front of you, which means listening to the music the way it was recorded), generally do not want much (or any) information coming from the rears.

Alot of people who have upgraded bmw speakers have put vibe slick co axial speakers as they are cheap and easy to fit and do the job much beter than stock as its only rear speakers i wouldnt want to spend too much on them

I'm looking just for some rear fill to compliment the front stage.
And no EDM here - I'm a guitar rock & blues fan, with some jazz & electronica mixed in. Thanks for the input. |

I've been meaning to do this also, on a budget. I like to think that the rear passengers in my car should also get the benefit of a good audio experience (though perhaps not as great as sitting shotgun).

I'm sure they are. Having them with the same mounting holes would be far too easy! Anyway, Focal does have other coax plus mounting adapters are available.
