Battery Help!

Hi Guys me again!

Got a new battery for girlfriends car following this thread:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=982858

BUT, it didnt seem to work first time... i had to disconnect a cable for the car to fire up?

This one

What does it do and why will the car start without this on and not when it is? It loops from the Live, to the negative.

We took it off and the car started, we tried this 3 or 4 times, 5th time round we plugged it back in and then left it on for a while. Turned car off and left cable plugged in, and it worked again!?!

Letting the car sit locked for an hour to let all the modules power down and going to try it again to see what the outcome is!

Any ideas all?

(PS battery restraint warning is now light,(cable both in and out) maybe this is because the battery isnt registered yet?

(Error code from original thread remains!)

That's the IBS(intelligent battery sensor)
Detects drain/ charging etc.
After battery replacement ,erase all faults and register new battery.
Also is that an oem battery?

Hi Guys

Battery has been registered this morning, but still the fault code remains. Car seems to have no trouble starting anymore thankfully so thats one thing

Restraint fault is still present!

BMW did say battery would be re coding because the CCA is slightly higher than it was before, but wanted £115+VAT to do it?! Any coding gurus on here fancy earning some beer tokens!?

(They did say that recoding may not help with the fault and to find out what that was, i need to talk to the GF about what they said to here but they mentioned £450)

Battery is OEM Spec but not OEM, is a bosch unit with 5 year warranty, came in considerably cheaper than BMW OEM Part

That big black tube on the positive is you're battery isolater (pops in the event of a crash)
Double check all you're connections around there, there's quite a few.
Put a pic up of warning lamp that's on.

I don't know too much about this but if the IBS(intelligent battery sensor) is disconnected how do you know your new battery is being charged? I would probably assume it isn't or if it 'thinks' it needs to charge a dead battery could it damage your new one by over charging it?

Also on that note if you still need to code it then charge it back up again just in case it may have lost some.

I cheated mine by charging the dead one for a week then fitted the new one. I never received an error message on the idrive anyway.

Ah so it's the srs system.Very often when battery goes flat the srs lamp will come on and requires a reset.I take it you have tried that with you're code reader. Also what does that fault code translate to?

Cable is back in now mate, its a strange one, only way we could turn it on before was to disconnect, we left engine to run for a while and plugged it back in, to confirm it is now correctly back in place and the car starts fine (very strange!) The issues now are the error messages that keep coming back!

We have the old battery on charge as we speak, will see how the car reacts when this is plummed back in!

Yeah i've read that its a battery thing so i was hoping new battery and code wipe would help, apparently not :-(

Reset the codes with my Evolve mapping module thing. But still comes back each time!

Is there another way of doing this, IE disconnect battery again for 30mins?

Does you're evolve tool allow diagnosis of other modules?i thought these things only worked on the DME/engine management.

You need to leave these batteries on charge (low charge) for a long time from my experience. I found they don't do fast full charging and if it was really dead you should not just give up just leave it on for a couple of days.

No it probably only allows the one, which is why it keeps coming back!
