Huper Optic Tint (sorry about the bad spelling)
Hey,
I heard from a frd that Huper Optic Tint (sorry if the spellin is wrong) and comfort access don't work together too well or something. He says it will cause the comfort access not to function properly. Anyways, pls correct me if I am wrong cause I heart Huper Optic and had it on my old car. IT ROCKS! TIA |

Generally you want to stay away from metallic tints. Ceramic tints are fine and will cause no interference.
Huper Optik makes both metallic (Sech and Drei) and ceramic tints. You should be fine, if you get one that is ceramic. |

Depends on what you mean "better".
Ceramic is "better" because it does not cause interference with radio, GPS signals, satellite radio, radar detectors, cell phone, etc. It has been said that metallic film may cause some interference with these devices. But from what I understand from other users, having metallic tint doesn't necessarily completely inhibit usage of these devices in the car...but it may reduce the performance of them (ie. decreased cell phone reception or reduced range). In theory, metallic film is "better" because it can provide superior heat rejection, while not being too visibly dark. Case in point, compare between two of Huper Optik's products that are both rated to be approx 60% tint: Huper Optik Ceramic 60% Tint: Visible Light Transmission (58%) Total Solar Transmission (46%) Infrared Rejection (60%) Total Solar Energy Rejected (42%) Huper Optik Sech Visible Light Transmission (59%) Total Solar Transmission (35%) Infrared Rejection (83%) Total Solar Energy Rejected (54%) If you look at Huper Optik Drei (35% tint)...it has performance better than Ceramic 20% tint. Edit: I should mention that Huper Optik ceramic and metallic tints are acres better than any of the cheaper dye-based tints you see on the road...typically seen in the sun-bleached shade of dark purple and splotchy bubbles all over... |

Search for my Huper Optik thread. I have detail and review of the (currently) only installer in Vancouver.
Tell him that spacedogg (Dave) from E90post sent you... Last I heard he was doing the tints for all the cars from Capilano Audi... |

I had my Huper Optik tint installed and it did effect it slightly. When I first got the car I could have the key in my pocket or even in my backpack and it would work almost instantly. Now with the tint I find it will not work 100% of the time in my pocket or my backpack without some kind of delay. I found this especially with unlocking the trunk. I now have gotten used to having the key in my hand and it works most of the time. Yeah I know if I have the key in my hand whats the point of Comfort Access but whatever.

One intangible difference between ceramic and metallic.... the colour or "tint" of metallic tints looks better.
I had metallic on my old Lexus, and have ceramic on the E90... hands down, the metallic had a nicer look |
