Paint Restoration

Is $150 for someone to do a full "paint restoration" the same as... Washing, claying, compounding, polishing, waxing, etc?

I have a clay kit, compound, polish, wax... Could I get away with restoring the paint that way rather than pay the $150?

I don't really know what a "paint restoration service" is...

Help educate me please.

Basically, yeah thats what it is.

I would take it to a professional to get this done however. Given that youll also need a random orbital polisher or something mechanical to really get in there, it would be easy to cut too much into the clear coat and make things even worse.

Anywho, goodluck

And what you mean by making things worse would be regarding the "compound." I couldn't do any damage claying, polishing, or waxing, could I?

Well my interpretation of what he was saying was that if you truly want to give your car a thorough paint restoration, you'd have to use an orbiter or mechanical buffer for waxing/polishing. With the use of that, there's a chance of messing up your clear coat or even your paint if youre not familiar with it.
Yes you can still do the old fashion way with good ol elbow grease and microfiber buffers, but to get a truly perfect restoration, you'd need a buffing tool.
IMO if the person that's charging $150 for that service and a lot of people have had positive experiences with them, I'd go with it (under the basis they're using professional tools and know how to handle them).

Edit:
The only thing that you could possibly do is leave swirl marks if you use rubbing compound to remove paint imperfections because it's much more abrasive than polishing compound.

If you're asking these questions don't even dare attempt to do this yourself. You will for sure fuck up the paint. Just leave it to a pro,150 Isn't bad for paint restoration. Good lucl

I would be extremely skeptical of a $150 "paint restoration." Properly done paint correction is a full or multiple day job. My detailer is one of the quickest in the area and it still took him eight hours to do my car, and that wasn't even to get it perfect - just to correct most of the scuffs and more noticeable swirling.
